Versus is... well one of the more extremely violent movies out here. We're not just talking blood and exit wounds here, but splattered guts. One of his better movies is Azumi.
Other good movies are Zatoichi (2004)
2009 Lost Memories (Korean)
Lady Snowblood
Blue Spring (Aoi Haru)
Highly recommend Shomuni for TV series Live action.

how about Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai) and Twilight Samurai (Tasogare Seibei)?
Seven Samurai is really old, but it was a basically good film, true to it's cultural heritage, i wasn't awe-inspired by it or anything, but it was ok.

Twilight Samurai was awesome, it was made in about 2003, so it is newer, well-written, very gripping, and keeps true to it's Japanese culture.

Japanese Movies that Suck
-All of them
-Suicide Club
-Koma
-All of them
I've recently found out I hate japanese movies. I think as a general stereotype that isn't far from the truth, other than a couple anime titles, The Japanese Don't know how to tell a story, they also don't understand Physics, Reality, Guns, Bullets, and What happens when Guns are used to make bullets go into people.
Every Single Japanese Movie I've watched has... "WTF" moments (What the Fudge?!). Moments when Something completely STUPID, Unrelated, Unproffesional, Unexplanitory happens.
Very Good movies (suicide club) have been ruined by the Japanese. The japanese also like to put things in their stories that "DON'T MAKE SENSE", Which is why RPGs are something I avoid now-a-days. Especially the Movies, ug. Things that are IMPOSSIBLE Physically are done in Japanese Movies, movies that have a serious tone, and a very non-fictional state of reality.
After the games I've played and Movies I've watched (big foreign film fan), Japanese Movies have Disguisted me with their lack of EVERYTHING good. They are a waste of my time and I have given up on them.
I've yet to see a film as unproffesional, and as flawed as a Japanese Film
*Vomits on Japan*
The Only thing they're good at, is graphics[period], and every once in a while a story or two (Metal Gear), they probly cheated and used an American to help out with the story.
The French... ohhh don't get me started. You might as well watch porn, it'll be over quicker.
Volt, Please if you hate something like japanese movies so much then don't waste time typing about them.
Plus did you ever think they don't care about what realistic but rather what looks cool...
But I liked your burn to french films though I've never seen one it was still pretty good.

Realistic: Shatterheart goes out deer hunting with his dad and waits in a tree for 8 hours, shoots a deer and drags it back home to make Jerky.
Cool: Shatterheart goes deer hunting with a spoon. But his dad only brought mustard, so they fight over who's mom is the real princess. It doens't really matter because they are both brothers somehow. But when shatterheart realizes that grass grows in real time very slowly, he parachutes out of an airplain with a can of scissors to impress the Gods of "all things irrelavent" so they'll make the grass grow faster. Thus freeing his soul from hell, and re-uniting him with his long lost.... .................................. pare of jeans. SURPRIZE IT'S A JEANS COMMERCIAL! a 2 hour long jeans commercial.
Japanese way of Re-telling the story: Everything is perfectly realistic, Shatterheart and his dad go into woods, wait 8 hours, shoot deer, drag it home. But at the very end of the movie, Shatterheart gets shot in the head, spits out the bullet and says "They can shoot me, but there will always be a tomorrow... God knows... there will always be a tomorrow"
That was awesome.

Hmm... Let's list off the Japanese Live Action movies I've seen
Yojimbo: Akira Kurosawa... Not as famous as 7 Samurai, but I've never seen 7 Samurai... I have seen Yojimbo, and it is darn funny. About a ronin that tricks two warring villages into paying him a lot of money...
Hidden Fortress: Meh movie... I sorta feel about this one like I do most westerns... Meh...
Kikujiro: Ok, but one scene was a bit hard to watch and I wouldnt' recommend it openly...
The Hapiness of the Katakuris: Very funny, but a bit dirty in a couple places... Think of it almost as a live action excel saga... Well, maybe not... It's slower than Excel... It's a "horror" comedy musical... It's not really meant to be scary. A family own a guest house and don't get any business until one fatefull day when they start getting customers who all wind up dead before they leave... Did I mention it is a musical?
Parasite Eve: I didn't see the whole thing, and I've never watched more than half of the movie at a time, so it is hard for me to comment... What I did see seemed mildly interesting... Practically nothing to do with the game...
Speaking of French movies, there is a great French movie called "WASABI!!!" and it takes place in Japan... No sex, only talk of prostitutes for a bit... It was directed by Luc Besson, one of the best directors in the world, and starring Jean Reno, Besson's personal slave. ^_^ Jean Reno is a good actor... Wasabi is a great movie. It's not as good as their masterpiece together, "Léon" but good nonetheless...

Have you checked out "The Returner?" It's a pretty fun film to watch. A Matrix rip-off but it's one of the best of them.

Yojimbo and its sequel, Sanjuro. Yojimbo is better but the sequel is pleasant enough.
The First Samurai--the box set of a trilogy of movies (whose titles I can't remember) chronicling the life of Miyamoto Musashi. Good stuff.
the Seven Samurai--'nuff said.
And all of these star none other but Toshiro Mifune! Yay!

i heard Princess Blade was pretty lame. But the previews looked cool enough that I'm sure i'll rent it sometime
Volt, your opinions were, um, graphic to say the least. Seems like you just don't like the eastern style. Not that it sucks[as you so eloquently put it], but so different from what you like, that you equate it with suckiness.
About the returner, it looks cool too.
