Never taken any martial arts, but I know the very last thing I'd want to do is Combat Ki. MAN, that looks painful. (You definately know what I mean if you've ever seen it)

Its so sweet that you all like martial arts so much! Maybe I'll see someone at a tournament someday. If you ever hear them announce Spike Spiegel or Saijoto Kenji over the intercom you have to come find me and say hi!

I thought so. Alot of people on this thread have taken those two, but I guess that could also be for lack of a different dojo or something.

It really depends on where you live. My true home is Houston, Texas and you can find quite a bit of different arts there.

I might as well chime in too. I started taking aikido in july. Still just a white belt. I'm up for my first test soon though. i'm nervous. Even though I get the feeling that the first test is fairly easy, I don't feel ready.

I must explain/demonstrate a few terms: seiza, orenaite, shizentai, agura no shisei. (i've been shown, but never actually done, agura no shisei and orenaite)

I must be able to persom these Waza, omote and ura.

katatekosatori kotegaesh -crosshand wrist grab/wrist-turning throw and pin

katatori ikkyo -lapel grab/ 'first teaching' and pin.

Katatekosatori kokyunage -crosshand wrist grab/timing throw, controlling the head.

I have double the hours required for the first test, but very few of those hours have actually been spent practicing these techniques. I still feel kinda wobbly. I've been reminded/encouraged a couple of times, so I know some of instructors think I'm ready. I guess I just hate tests. I'll should probably just request the test and see what happens. <gulps>

Dont sweat it. The first test you take is always the most awkward and then you get in the groove of things and you wont be nervous when the next test come around. Trust me, my first Ninjutsu tested freaked me out! I was so scared that I was gonna mess up and when it was done I was like, "well that was easier than I thought." and the next time it wasnt so bad.

The tests do get harder mind you, but you dont have the butterflies and shaky legs like you did the first time.

Since this is an old thread, I won't be too harsh on you guys but there are TWO other martial arts threads in the sports center. Perhaps they would be worth looking at/talking on since it's more suited for that forum. In fact, I think I will move this one over there and see which thread picks up the most conversation.
