This is where (I think) WVU's situation differs from Tennessee's. At least in the beginning, Bill Stewart actually took a pay cut so his staff could be paid more. This is part of the reason we were able to get Doc Holliday (along with what seems to be a promise made to him by the AD involving Bill Stewart's job). In our case it was more of a "we've been spoiled for the past three years and can't handle nine win seasons" attitude then a "Bill Stewart is making too much money" attitude. Though still, I think you are right about this for the vast majority of College athletics along with athletics in general. With the economy the way it is, a lot of people have gotten very touchy about the attitudes and actions of athletes and coaches who are being paid quite a bit.

I hadn't really thought about this but I think you're right. Urban Meyer would probably be another example. There is definitely a lot more pressure on these coaches then there were in years past and that might not be a good thing.

Most Vols fans like me that know this going to take some time to fix, knew this would be a hard year and it would be next year that would be the year to start seeing how good Dooley will be. But so far, it shows that he is a good coach as we did hang in with LSU and FLA for four quarters.
Put this way as how young a team that Dooley has,
UAB team had more scholarship players then we did. As far as I know, we don't even have 70 players on scholarship on our team. Some of the players that are playing on defense and some on offense are walk on players.
I think only one offense line player had playing time and what was only five or six games.

Not just hung in, should have won. Yes, that penalty was a mistake and you could blame the coaches for it. But still, LSU got lucky and really shouldn't of won that game. In this case, your guys mistake just happened to be a little bit bigger then LSU's mistake. But your right, people need to be more patient. In fact, there is good evidence for people to be patient. Both Greg Schiano and Frank Beamer started their careers with losing records but have done a pretty good job lately (granted, this year is looking like a disaster for Schiano and a disappointment for Beamer but still...in general they've done well). So, if a coach shows talent, then stick with him. Of course, its easier to do that at a school with no history then at a school like WVU or Tennessee.
