Lockdown, a decent scifi action film. I wish the uncut version was uncut and the cgi action scenes didn't look so bad.

I watched Green Snake last night. It's an old asian film... umm... I really don't know what to think about it.

Visually, it was beautiful with amazing music. And I liked the basic concept of the story. But as a film, it's executed quite badly but that may be because it seemed horribly translated as well.

I could not tell what was going on most of the time (a lot of scenes were beautiful seductive asian music with flowing scenes passing by with trailer like pace... beautiful but couldn't tell what the heck was supposed to be going on)... the terrible translation didn't help. They said many things that made no sense and then they start saying something and it would totally change the next sentence so I was just left going... "What... the crap?"

I started falling asleep through the movie. Not cause it was boring, but since I didn't have a clue what was going on, all I was left with was beautiful visuals, amazing music, flowing cinematography and gorgeous colors. And two very attractive asian women (one was Maggie Cheung who I think is gorgeous and one of the reasons I checked the movie out)... which made for a very nice, drift off to sleep movie. Very dreamy and made just about as much sense.

It DEFINITELY needs a remake... and I searched and found there was one with Jet Li called The Sorcerer and the White Snake so I will have to check that out if I can cause it looks visually amazing as well but hopefully more coherent so I can know what's going on.

Oh Lucky Malcolm a special feature of the A Clockwork Orange Bluray I great look inside of the life and career of a fantastic and underrated actor.

Batman: The Dark Knight RisesNot nearly the film I wanted it to be. It had a lot of great moments, but failed to live up to the hype. Bane voice was a huge issue. Darth Connery!

Watched Beauty and the Beast for the 13204978468734058th time - it's my favorite ;) I also rewatched Twilight Samurai, and am still amazed at Hiroyuki Sanada's skill with a blade :wow!:

A friend roped me into watching Sleepless in Seattle, which was okay...but the romance was a bit too easy and convenient. It made me realize that I only like romances where they have to really work for their love. It's more realistic that way.

I'm almost finished with Seven Samurai (a bit longer than I was expecting! @_@). I'd seen the anime years ago, and now I'm just scratching my head, unable to comprehend how they got Point B from Point A :eyebrow: It's really fun to see the original version of this story, and I kind of wish I'd watched this instead of the anime, which was only so-so. Kikuchiyo and Katsushiro remain my favorite characters.

Shark Night.... Terrible movie. Awful. Much worse than I ever thought it would be... even with a PG-13 rating. It was not even bad in it's so bad it's good way... it was just boring and stupid. That this was in theatres is mind boggling. The sharks looked like crap and I couldn't stand the way they swam. Every character you wanted to die they were all so unlikable. Terrible effects. I didn't know that at the beginning of the movie when they showed a clip from Deep Blue Sea, that that would be the best thing in the movie... and a much better shark movie.

Watched The Reef after and it was MUCH better. It was like Open Waters but much better.... more like Black Waters with a Great White instead of a Croc. I liked it but after Shark Night, anything would have been good I think. But anyway I liked it... much better shark movie. And you were actually rooting for the characters.

Re-watched Begotten.
It supposedly tells the story of the birth, life and death of a god.
It's a very awesome movie. The director, Elia Merhige, also did "Shadow of the Vampire" which is an awesome movie too.

Equilibrium - Awesome action movie  Christian Bale is always awesome, but the fights in this movie were absolutely superb. Try and tell me this isn't awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPuAKVnqJdk

The Others - Really good horror movie. Though it wasn't so much horror as just...a feeling that something was very, very wrong, you just weren't sure what. Very good use of lighting and sound; I always appreciate horror movies that don't rely on CG jumping at the screen to scare you.

Watched Hunger Games for a second time on the plane trip back. Seeing other people being hurt took my mind off my own upset stomach :P Honestly, it's a great movie to get caught up in when you don't want to think about how uncomfortable you are - it made me think that things could be so much worse.

Watched X-men Origins Wolverine. Why I liked that movie so much, I have no idea. It's not nearly as much fun as X-Men First Class.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - This movie is way more engaging than the first one. The Moriarty/Holmes rivalry is brilliant and totally makes this movie. Half the action sequences I can do without, especially since you can tell a lot of them were made to be seen in 3D. But I do like some of the creative camera shots and angles. It's unusual and interesting. I think if you're going to shoot a movie to be seen in 3D, this is the way to do it. But the fast/slow stuff does get to be a bit much in some scenes.

But what really makes this movie are the scenes of dialogue with Robert Downey Jr (Holmes) and Jared Harris (Moriarty). They're well written and well acted. Very engaging. I do wish that they gave the audience a few more hints; half the fun of Sherlock Holmes is seeing if you can figure it out too. Most of the time, though, they don't give you much information until they whip it all past you to show that Holmes has it figured out. But it's still a really fun, well-made action flick, and it's much more enjoyable than the first one.

Ink - a beautiful, bizarre movie about dreams and nightmares. It was a wonderful example of in medias res and layers of meaning. I thought it was really well done.

Departures - a Japanese movie about the people who prepare a body for putting it in a coffin and burning it. It showed how most people consider it a dirty, disgusting job, but through the course of the movie you really see how it is filled with honor and beauty.

Defiance - Based on a true story about a group of Jews who managed to hide out in the forests of Belarus and escape the Holocaust, this was a very realistic movie. It showed true humanity and bravery, in such an ordinary way that you could really believe that real people went through all that.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - a great Western classic. Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, what more needs to be said?

I'm also watching a French miniseries of The Count of Monte Cristo, which is the most faithful adaptation of that story I've seen yet.

Casino, about how various crime organisations built and ran the casinos in Las Vegas, and the amounts of corruption that fuelled the expansion, and how in-battles lost it. Told from the point of view of a brutal but somewhat hypocritical gangster and his best friend (Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci) this is at times an ugly gangster picture, but so well made and true to life that its never feels exploitive. Not for the feint of heart.

Finished the French miniseries of The Count of Monte Cristo. Very accurate portrayal up till the end, because apparently nobody likes the book's ending :P

High Noon - another Western, a good example of tension. I found it really cool how aware of the time you were through most of the movie.

Cypher - a weird futuristic movie about brainwashing and trying to figure out who to trust. I thought the main character looked like a derp (and thus found it extremely hard to keep watching), but I loved the twist ending.

Finally went to see The Amazing Spider-Man. I am not a fan of the previous trilogy so my expectations were high for this one. I was worried they might have been too high and I might be disappointed but I really enjoyed it. I look forward to seeing what they do with the sequels.

I also saw Mirror Mirror, Chipwrecked, and the Adventures of Tintin. Mirror Mirror had a great cast of dwarves, but the other two were barely good in my opinion. I'll take Trigun over those two any day.

Watched Act of Valor the other night.
It starts a bit slowly but has a sense of believability that you don't get from most Hollywood films.
An excellent film film that does not fall into the usual tropes of the genre.
I highly recommend it.

Witness - interesting Harrison Ford movie about an Amish boy who is the witness to a murder (though with a completely disgusting and unnecessary bit of full-frontal nudity >_<)

Primer - :eh: Really hard to follow, but really cool because it feels so real (even the way the actors talked with each other sounded like the way people really talk, drowning each other out and interrupting, rather than reciting lines in turn). It's about causality; can't say too much more without spoiling the experience.

The Dust Factory - another rather trippy movie about people going to some weird "limbo" state when they have a near-death experience

Life Is Beautiful - A comedy about the Holocaust. No really. I never imagined such a thing could be done well, but this Italian movie is legitimately funny and also treats the Holocaust with respect. I'm still trying to figure out how they managed it.

The 13th Warrior - It's one of those films that was such a creative, unique concept, and the production crew gave it 110%... and then the editors butchered it into a confusing, uninspiring mess. SO disappointing, because you can ABSOLUTELY tell that the crappiness of the film is solely the editor's fault, and if it hadn't been edited absolutely to death it would be a fantastic film.

Saw The Dark Knight Rises at the theater yesterday. It was a good third movie for the trilogy, but I enjoyed The Dark Knight more.

My dad and I watched The Great Escape together- I thought I wouldn't enjoy it, but it turned out to be very interesting. It gives a view of WWII that doesn't involve heavy violence or politics.

Saw The Hunger Games last night. They kept all of the good parts and did a really good job with each of them, capturing the bones and outline, but not going into pesky detail. Although, I do kind of miss the part where the 12 tributes get sent that huge meal. I don't think they played up the romance or Gale nearly enough.

This ^ (or V that if you are like me) I also finally got around to watching it, so it was good, I kinda knew half of what was going to happen because I have a mother and sisters that are obsessed with it. I liked it though, very well constructed, and I understood pretty well everything]Rue died and the chaos in district 11 happened, I didn't realize she was from there, so I had to ask mom[/SPOILER]
