I'm starting to study a martial art

Postby oro! » Sun Feb 20, 2005 2:36 pm

So, finally after seven months of waiting... I can start Seon ki do. I am so excited, because i have always wanted to learn how to really fight and defend myself beyond basics. It is at a church and free so I'm pretty sure waht I've seen is good. We actually prayed before and after lessons and that made me comfortable. So, what are y'all learning? Advice? etc

well martial arts is hard... prepare to practice every single day. i suggest buying some 10 pound weights to help out. other suggestions are listen to your instructor and give those with higher rank respect and when you get higher rank give those under you the due respect.
youll learn it and youll do good if you keep at it.

Free lessons and a church setting mean it's good? They don't mean it's bad, but has the instructor won any competitions or anything? (maybe hire some ninjas to test him...)

Wow, I've never heard of that style before ^^; There really is such a variety of styles to learn out there :p

I've been doing Tae Kwon Do since I was 12. I think doing martial arts in general is a great way to relax and clear your mind. I've always been the type to find a way to stay active all the time ^^;

:lol: He has to pretty regularly take tests and that sorta thing with HIS rank. I've only gone 2 times, but i believe he knows what he's doing... although us white belts don't get directly taught by him except before we break off into groups. We are learning some taekwondo, some hapkido, later board breaking and weapons! I do practice every day, 'cause otherwise, how will I internalize it and get better? Thanks for advice and comments

Yeah ... winning point fights is a good way to know if someone can fight or not. No, not really. :eyeroll:

Finding out the instructor's abilities is a very good idea, but most competitions are not a good litmus test
