Powerpoint Error Message

My professor put up a Powerpoint on Blackboard for an assignment that is due Monday. Usually, I can open up the files he puts up with no problems.
However, when I try to open this .ppt file (I tried both saving it and opening it directly), I get this error message:
"PowerPoint can't read the outline form C:\Documents and Settings\OWNER\Desktop\Assign6CraneIncident.ppt. No text converter is installed for this file type."
What should I do? I tried downloading the Office 2007 Compatibility pack from Microsoft, but that didn't solve the problem.

What version of Office do you have?

Office 2007
Edit: I was going to try contacting Microsoft's customer support, but they want to charge $49 for email support and $49 for phone support. What gives?

Have you tried running OpenOffice on it, just to see if that can open it instead?

Just tried it --OpenOffice cannot open it either. I emailed my professor, so hopefully I should hear back from him sometime tomorrow

Thought so. Probably a defective file.

Maybe my prof will email out a different copy --it stinks, because my assignment is due Monday.
Thanks for your help, shooraijin!

Still no word from my prof. Guess I'll just have to talk to him during class tomorrow --I hope he'll understand.

Hey Sheenar, if you still have time, can you attach the file to your next post? I can see if I can open it and what's wrong with it. Hope it works out!

My professor re-uploaded it to Blackboard and said that it should work now --and he moved the assignment to be due on Wednesday.
Thank you guys for your help!
