Dashboard not adding widgets

(A few days ago I opened my dashboard to discover all my widgets were gone, and now when I try to re-add them, it merely closes the dashboard. The only widget I can add is the "Widgets" widget. I run OS X 10.5.)
(The only unusual thing I've done is set up an account for my little sister to sync her iPod [she likes my library better than my dad's], and I was trying to set up parental controls so she couldn't access the internet without asking me or my parents. I didn't get a chance to finish this, so I just deleted the account and shut down the computer before I left. The next time I started up the widgets on my account were gone.)
(edit: I OS X updated and it's fine now. Haha, I feel stupid. The Updater came up during school, so I just closed it and forgot about it.)
