Here's what you do:

1. Quickly change the folder name on your NEW folder to "temp".

2. Quickly change the folder name on your PREVIOUS folder back to your username.

Until you do that, you can't get your settings back, etc.

That didn't work. My email and stuff is still reset. I had already moved my stuff to the new folder in an attempt to fix the problem and moved the old folder to the trash. It won't reset.

What I need is access to my old email.

I think the problem is my old library folder that resided on my main volume is now reset. How do I get the old one back?

I think I lost all my setttings and my old email box....

I:

1) Renamed it...not knowing it was not good to do so.

2) Copied my old fodler contents to the new folder it created

3) Moved the now empty old folder to the trash

4) Reset the computer several times to try and get the new settings to take

5) Tried restoring the old folder from the trash and moving old contents to that folder

6) Tried to find all library folders, but the only ones that come up are the ones I have now. The one in my home fodler seems ok, but the one on the main drive has reset. All the widgets I downloaded are gone.

Uh oh... You might be hosed.

There shouldn't be anything in the "Main Library" folder (and for the love of all that is holy, stay OUT of /System/Library unless you REALLY wanna reformat/install). That's pretty much stuff you'd never touch. Your mail is stored in /Users/[username]/Library/Mail (well, if you are using Apple's Mail, that is).

It sounds like you attempted to do this backwards. You should have deleted the NEW folder, and renamed the OLD one back (quickly). If you do it in the order you're saying here, I'm guessing the system didn't move the new Library folder (or all of it). Likely during the moving process the system saw problems with the folder structure and "fixed" it by copying over.
