Recently, I purchased a desktop computer to replace my laptop. Of course, since I wanted to put the desktop computer in my room instead of leaving it in the open, I was faced with the problem of getting the wireless signal from one side of my house to the other. A gentleman at Best Buy suggested I buy a wireless range expander, so I did.
Things were all well and good for awhile, but now it's gotten to the point where every three or four days, I'll wake up in the morning only to have lost the wireless signal to my room, as well as the wired internet on my parent's desktop computer. This had never happened when I was using my laptop.
It's never a quick-fix, either. When the wired internet on my parent's computer goes, it's simple to get it back online; I just reset the router and the modem and restart the computer and it works. But the real issue here is the accursed range expander. Sometimes, for reasons beyond my comprehension and even after numerous resets, the wireless expander CANNOT configure itself to the wireless signal my router sends out for hours after resetting the router. Then again, at times I can sit down and do it and have everything up-and-running in ten minutes time.
Any insight on to what I could do or what the problem is would be much appreciated. This has been going on for months now, and I'm almost at the point where I want to shell out a second internet bill to have my ISP come install a second wired internet line for my room. The router and the range expander are both linksys, by the way.
