Laptop not reading CDs or DVDs

Here's a challenge for the computer-literate. Lately, my sister's laptop hasn't been reading CDs or DVDs(both essential for the AMV I wanted to make :shady: ). It's brand-new and it has played DVDs before. We watched Howl's Moving Castle one night, tried to install her camera software the next, and now nothing will read. Any idea as to why this might be?

Yes, it happened after she tried to install the camera software. No, it didn't successfully install. It did on the family computer which has XP, but not on her computer which has Vista. I don't know the name of the software, but it's the new Polaroid one. Ah, wait, it's called ArcSoft. Just checked on Polaroid's website. http://www.polaroid.com/global/detail.j ... 45&PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524441764743&c=us
I have no idea whether or not it's related to the software though. :( It installed just fine on the family computer.
