Dang it, of all the things to forget to back up when I re-install windows it had to be the sound driver. Well I didnt even know I had a sound driver since I ran it from the motherboard like all noobs.

But alas its gone, leaving me with no sound (nothings reconized in the Sounds and Audio devices app!) especially on today of all days when iTunes 7 came out.

Yes it's even more bloted and now it's color is Fight Club blue. But thats besides the point, I cant hear a darn thing....

Help?

XP SP 2 Pro ( why yes I did upgrade my OS =D)

try CPU-Z to check which motherboard model you have and then look at the manufacturer site, if the system is OEM (HP, Dell, etc.) you might have to look for recovery discs.

Tried that yesterday to no avail, Sony didnt pack one in and I cant say that the cd that Windows came on was totally kosher. I'm thinking of just putting a hundred of my birthday money on a real sound card so that might take a week.

Thanks Sync for the advice (and Mith for standing by him =D)!

If you can find out the motherboard make, we can help you find a driver online.

Reboot the computer and read the bios setting that show up on the edges of the screen when it first starts to boot. That will give you a little more information.

What kind of Sony is it? We might even be able to look it up from that.

Is that a Sony PCV-RS43M? You can get drivers here:

http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-swu.pl?mdl=PCVRS43M

If it's not, you can change the toggle box there and enter the correct model number.

Woops, sorry for the downtime. Verizon just had an outage that knocked out the net for a few days and hopefully will be up by tomorrow (thank goodness for 100 Mps connections at school).

I found that Windows can auto find the driver but with the current lack of internet I cant do that so I broke down and bought a sound card. Thanks for the help guys, though I might need help with the sound card once it comes in the mail, hopefully in tact...
