A happy accident

I was trying to switch tabs in Firefox earlier tonight, and accidently middle clicked instead of left. The tab... It was gone! I tried again. Ctrl+T, middle click, no new tab.

Handy feature. I was getting tired of having to switch to the tab before closing it.

I never had to switch tabs to close them...I just right clicked on the tab and clicked "Close Tab." o.O

That just shows how often I read Firefox's documentation.

Nah. I discovered it on accident too (I feel asleep and lent on the middle button just as the mouse was over a tab...)

yep, tabmix plus....has been on my laptop since prettymuch i got it... mouseover gives x button, all new sites and popups in new tabs, and automatic tab restore tools, when you close the wrong one... i didn't even realize that people had so much trouble with tabs. :P

lol

How about we don't get sidetracked into a browser war, OK?

Hmm, I knew about this in Opera, but I hadn't realized that FF had borrowed it yet. Is this default functionality, or extension-dependent? I have a vanilla FF install on this machine, and it doesn't seem to have this behavior.

Unless extensions modify the help text, it's built in.

However, I noticed it doesn't seem to work on Slackware.

That's because in Linux, the middle button pastes whatever's on the clipboard or whatever's selected, so by middle clicking on a tab, you're actually pasting something into the tab and telling the browser to go there. I think I fixed it by installing an extension.
