I'm looking for a new laptop, has to have atleast 2.5 ghz processor (Pentium of course) 2 gigs of ram, wireless card, good battery (has to last atleast 2 hours on a full charge) if anyone knows of any good deals or anything, could ya let me know?

Why "2.5Ghz (Pentium of course)"? What about a 1.6Ghz or better dual-core?

I actually don't know much about the dual processors how it'd compare, Pentium, because i've just been raised to think of pentium = good, celeron = bad, and 2.5ghz because that's the min requirements for a accounting software i'm gonna need for work.

Intel fudges up their clock speeds. Clock speed isn't what makes a processor fast. It's uh.... some other stuff...

You might want to check into AMD processors. The trick is that they "seem" slower, but are actually pretty fast. Like an AMD 1.7 ghz processor is as fast as a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz Processor (something like that)

Don't be fooled by Intel

Generally, Intels are better for laptops because of things like power consumption and heat, which is part of the reason why there aren't as many AMD laptops. Also, as is mentioned frequently, isn't a very accurate indicator of power, especially nowadays, since many of the newest processors have lower clock speeds.

If I'm not mistaken, the mobile CPUs are the Pentium M (not Pentium 4M or Pentium 4), which is found in those Centrino thingies, and the new Core processors.

Hm....A laptop with 2.5 or over is kinda hard to get in a small package.

Most laptops have a Pentium M or Intel Core Duo. These proccessors both max out at about 2.2 or so. If you want faster clock speed you have to get a laptop with a desktop proccessor. However this laptops are ovens. Mine gets so hot I literally don't want to touch the keyboard. I use a speedpad. But it really only gets that hot because 1) I am running a game 2) cause I live where its naturally hot and my main house has no AC. When I am just interneting or some other low power tasks it doesn't get so hot.

I would research how the Intel Core Duos stack up next to full blow P4s. And as for brand I recomend Toshiba or Sager. I have owned both and am very happy with both brands. I know Toshiba and Sager both offer a pretty wide range of types. Toshiba has more models but sager has some systems with serious muscle.

Clock speeds of a dual core processor aren't directly comparable to those of a single core processor. A dual core processor is just like it sounds, two processors in one. Dual cores are thus supposed to, for one thing, be strong at multi-tasking.

But surely even if they aren't directly comparable there's some kind of simple formula to give you a rough idea such as something like median processor speed + (sum of other processors/2) or something like that

Clock speeds are not indicators of performance in relatively modern system. In fact, pretty much got almost nothing to do with them.

That said, by the sounds of it, any laptop will do on the market as long as you stay away from low budget ones, or used ones. And you don't need 2GB of RAM either, especially not in a laptop.

I haven't seriously dealt with computers since i was like 10, thought how it worked was the clock speed handles how fast the computer can perform operations.....guess i'm wrong, in any case, the 2gigs of ram is really more of a shooting for the skies thing, you start out aiming high, because you know something you'll have to give up, Kenshin17 I really want to thank you, i only briefly looked at your post before but you gave me exactly what i was looking for (a company that has the laptop I want) Well it's about three am now, so i'm gonna go to bed, but phase one down (finding where to get perfect laptop) next phase two, gathering money thanks again guys.

If you want the newest shiny, then you might want to wait until August, when Intel is releasing Merom, the Core 2 Duo for notebooks.
