Cute little "Favorites" symbol...

Okay, totally random question, but I've been curious for quite a while. When you add pages to your favorites it puts it on your list at the top of the browser. CAA and a lot of other sites have little custom icons instead of the normal folder-ish icon. How does that work, and what format does the image need to be in? If you don't mind revealing the secret, that is. I'm fine not knowing too, just curious. CAA's is kinda cute ^^

there's an image file in the root of the website that your browser looks for, and if it finds it, it puts that little icon there.

If I'm not mistaken, it has to be a 32x32 icon image file named favicon.ico and placed in the root of your site's folder structure (like Slater said). Hope that helps. ^_^

Thanks you two ^_^ Would it work with a subdomain? What kinds of programs can create ico's? I don't think I can in photoshop.

The GIMP and Pixia can both open icon (*.ico) files, and though I haven't tried saving any in that format I'm sure they'll both let you. :) And I think it'll work with a subdomain, though the only way you'll know for sure is to try, right? ^_^

It should work with a sub domain. Keep in mind that IE6 is the only browser which requests the ico format file. Most other browsers let you use gif/jpeg, etc. I believe that's a 16x16 file (256 color mode), for most browsers, btw. The only exception is IE 6 opening up a pointer to a web page with a folder set to "view large graphics." THAT can be 32x32.

Do you know if it would work within a intranet? The site is in a folder called S:\Common\Website.

Cause I am having a heck of a time getting this to work.
