How to store DVDs?

Is it better to store DVDs in their original cases or in slimline jewel cases?

What fits better? From my experience they both provide about equal amounts of protection, so I guess much of the answer lies in what you like best.

i prefer them as disc images on my 300GB external HD 
(what? if i own it, why not? it's easier, and safer for the disks!)
