A freind suggested to me the radeon x800 (around 160). This card any good and will it be able to easily handle oblivion and bf2?

Also suggest to me other cards that would be good for under or around 200.

I have an X800, and it is a good card, but I'd recommend the 7600gt as it is a newer card than the X800 and it tends to perform as well if not better than the X800.

One thing that has me leaning towards the x800xl is that it has 16 pipelines instead of the 12 that the 7600gt has. I have not made up my mind yet but I have a question for Puritan and glitch, which version of x800 do you have? The xl seems to be in a whole nother category compared to the regular x800 and the x800gto

LOL ARE YOU SERIOUS????? the X800 is TOP OF THE LINE! Well... it was about a year ago. Now there is better (Such as Quad SLI) but the X800 is AMAZING. I Run a 9800 and that is Simply Astounding enough for me. Get the X800. Or even the X850

I was reading a article gamespot had on oblivion, had a card comparison in it. Both cards im thinking of got 28 *whatever they were counting by* the top one got a 40 something i do beleive. Funny thing is these two did better then some of the 300 dollar cards. One problem though is that oblivion seems to be designed for geforce, due to some of the lighting affects not working on most radeons and shadows being funky for the radeon (supposedly a patch is on its way to fix that problem from radeon)

I have an X800XT Platinum Edition (earlier than the XL but of pretty similar specs), and I don't see any shadow problems or unworking lighting effects. Oblivion runs quite nicely with out-of-the-box settings, and I havn't had problems with anything else. A large part of my recommendation is based on articles that look at performance (such as Firingsquad's mainstream card performance with Oblivion article) which show that the 7600GT is just about at the top of the mid-price range category, right now. The X800 XL would be a great card and I am very pleased with my X800, but my understanding is that the 7600GT is a slightly better card.

A little loss of lighting never hurt anyone! I play counter-strike without the HDR lighting effect because it makes my computer act weird.

I mostly like my all in wonder PCI express 2006, except they include premier elements in it, instead of editing software that actually works with the all in wonder's capturing capabilities... that was a BIG mistake... I'm still sore about that one... Of course, I don't use my comp for gaming purposes, so this prolly isn't a help to most of you...

(Has a Geforce FX 5500, which I suppose is creaky ancient nowadays, but it ran Kotor, Kotor 2 and Fable with no problems)

Really? HDR works just fine for me in Oblivion, and I use an X800 XT as well. You sure your drivers are up to date?
