Matroska??

I have some .mkv files I want to play... none of my players seem to support it so need a codec :/ Tried download a "Matroska" package, but it didn't seem to make the slightest difference, nor did it come with a player of its own :/ Also tried getting the Combined Community Codec Pack but apparently Windows 98 people can't get it v_v

Help? Preferably to find one that would work on my VLC or even WMP (since my WinMX, BS Player, AND WinAmp players are all pretty messed!)

try Media Player Classic and the Matroska Lite pack instead of a large codec pack download.

For what it's worth:
http://ld-anime.subforge.net/guide/mkv-eng mentions the file.
