http://www.battleon.com is pretty highly recommended, I think. Might not be exactly what you're looking for, though.

Guild Wars is free, except from the initial cost of buying the disc. Its cool.

Yeah, Guild Wars is really good. IF you can afford the initial investment, it's a great.

check out
http://www.runescape.com
it's free until u want to become a member, in which case it's like $5 a month, the only real difference to a member and a non-member is certain stats and access to certain areas of the world, but i have a lot of fun there, and there is a lot u can do to customize your character, unfortunately the graphics for it aren't all that great, but at least they do sensor about 80% of all vulgar and profane language

Yeah, Runescape is cool. For a free game the graphics are pretty good.

I'm a cheap-skate, so I only play free online games
. I've played Maple Story for a while. The graphics are 2-D but very nice. Unfortunately something happened to my account so I no longer play it at this time. But you should give it a try.
Another one that I've heard of is Flyff (Fly for fun). It's mainly a Korean game but they do have an English version. I haven't tried it but you can do a lot of custom work on characters from what I've heard. And the graphics are 3-D.

I can't tell if it's free or not...

Maple story rock! I can't play it for too long though, since my computer is four years old it crashes after a while of playing it. *sigh*

Runescape and battleon are both kinda fun. They do get boring after a while though.

The term "good" is a bit ambiguous. For me, most of them are WAY too addictive to be good. However, if you want the best, WoW (World of Warcraft) is beyond outstanding! It's the most amazingly cool video game I've ever played. But it's so good, I actually stopped sleeping for over a week. I mean, I played the game that much. For real. (Well, I actually slept three or four hours a night but I usually sleep 8-10 hours.)
