Desktop Tachikoma Buddy

Postby oro! » Sat Sep 23, 2006 4:25 pm

My brother was wondering how one could or would create a tachikoma desktop character, like some of the ones that come with the windows machine. Is there anyone who could help me with this? It would probably be able to shoot and say something, go across the screen, etc.

I'm going to need "Desktop" disambiguated, please.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking about (I've never seen one). Is this a program that runs around on the computer screen, or an actual robot-like thing that sits on a desk?

If you're talking about a program, you might start by googling "Intelligent Agent," "Intelligent Agent Software" or "IAS." That's the fad name for the branch of computers involving "helper monkey software."

I think I used to have one of the sorts. Basically it's this little cute buddy (or some cute mini girl) that looks all animey and sits around on top of windowbars.

I remember one we had that was a sheep... and you could have more than one going at a time. If you shut a window when it was standing on top of it, it'd fall down... they all probably do that. I think it's been about 5-7 years since then. No idea where we found that one.

Okay, I'll try googling those key words. I was looking for one of the programs that photosoph described, on the computer screen desktop.

I've had a quick look on google for a desktop buddy type program; from one or two posts I'd recommend being careful if you choose to download any desktop buddies, mainly because they could likely contain spyware or viruses. I couldn't find anything on a tutorial to make one, however. If you did find a tutorial, though, it'd probably be geared towards moderate/advanced programmers. If anything, the easiest option could be trying to replace the picture files of an existing desktop buddy... no idea how you'd go about that, though.

Er, this might not be exactly what you're looking for: http://otakumascot.com/ But there is a tutorial should you choose to pursue the idea.
