Firefox not working...? >_<

All of a sudden today Firefox just stopped working. I click on the icon, and nothing happens. But when I go Ctrl+Alt+Delete and look in Processes, firefox.exe is there. So what's going on?? I.E. works, why not Firefox?

Did you kill it off from the Process Manager before starting it again? ("End Task")

Yes I did both those things. First I tried re-installing it, which required me to "end task" in the process manager. After it was still goofing up, I uninstalled first and then reinstalled. Still nothing. I also ran spyware scans to no effect.

And when I restart my computer, the little box comes up saying "Do you want to end this program Firefox.exe? Click End Now, etc." So obviously it's working... I just can't see it. I wonder what caused my computer to do this. >_<

Anyway thanks for your suggestions. Who knows, maybe it will sort itself out. I really really hate computers sometimes. XD

Sorry to double-post, but I found a working, if not convenient, solution. I just have to go to Start > Run > firefox.exe -p. Annoying, but it's better than being stuck using I.E.

Incidentally, when I was using I.E., pop-ups would sometimes come up in Mozilla. That makes me think spyware must be behind it all, but I run scans daily and nothing shows up. >_<

What spyware software are you using? I've found that using both adaware and spybot (edit: might cause trouble on some systems) had the best coverage. I would also recommend scanning for viruses. Do you have an up-to-date anti virus program?

Spybot? That program is a good reason for frequently creating restore points on the computer IMO-- whenever I installed it, it never failed to damage to my system just by installation alone.

It seems to me that would likely be caused by spyware hooks that could not be removed, so the offending file (a required dll, for example) was removed. But that's pure speculation on my part...

Ending tasks and ending processes are two different things. End process is much more effective, but can have a variety of bad sideeffects
