XP 64 vs. Vista 64?

Postby Cognitive Gear » Thu Dec 25, 2008 1:20 pm

Today I received 4 GB of RAM (Yay Christmas!) for my macbook pro. This is great, as the performance increase has been quite noticeable in OSX.

However, I currently have Windows XP 32 bit installed on the second partition, which as most of us know, can only access 3- 3.5GB of RAM (Due 4 GB address space limit, or something, I've honestly forgotten). Would upgrading to XP 64 or Vista 64 bit be better (Or even desirable) performance wise?

Drivers won't be an issue, as 64 bit versions are available for all of my hardware.

Thanks!

That's what you think.

In my experience:
If you're going to go with a 64 bit operating system, you want to go with Linux. ;) But if you want a windows operating system, then there is really no question between Vista and XP. XP support for 64 bit drivers is terrible. Go with Vista. It's definitely one of the things that Microsoft improved upon since XP.

I've used Vista 32 bit for some time, works really well.

As for Vista 64 bit I have heard hard-core experts who says it is completely broken and useless, but at the same time I have heard regular users who has found no problems with it at all.

I really cannot answer the question based on the information I have gotten. o.o
