changing video file formats
for all those computer experts out there, i was wondering if it were possible to change a video file's format. for example, would it be possible to change a Real Player video file (RMVB format) to Windows Media format? or something similar to this?

If you got any video editing program *ect aftereffects.* You might directly convert the video into a number of different other formats.

It might be easier to just install the Real Alternative codec, if playback is your primary concern...
What's the scenario you're looking at? Personal viewing? Distribution? You should probably be aware that changing formats will lower the quality of the video when you play it back.

While there are a number of quality programs made to convert between video file formats (the above mentioned SUPER being one of the best), converting lowers the quality of the video, can be highly monotonous and is overall an inefficient means of interchanging video among most formats (such as RMV to WMV). Therefore, it would be advisable that unless it is imperative to convert or you're interchanging acceptable formats (such as WMV to AVI and vice versa) you simply leave video files in their default format. After all, playing any video file is as easy as downloading a codec.

thanks for the link, Warrior4Christ. i hope you don't mind me asking, but could you provide some brief instructions or guidelines to go along with this link so i will have an idea of how to work the program? anyways, the reason i'm asking about changing video file formats isn't because of playback. i'm actually trying to compose a slideshow/video for my friend for his birthday (coming up in October). i'm using Windows Movie Maker to create my slideshow/video. however, i'm planning to put in various video clips of footage that i took of my friend with my digital camera. the only problem is that the video files are a different format, and i need it to be Windows Media Player format. that is why i started this thread...
unless you guys can offer a different movie making program that can utilize various types of video clips, music, and pictures.
