The Omegaea

Actually, I have nothing planned but I wanted to make a new story that lampoons Greek tragedy and of course, features CAA members.

Dramatis Personae:
Omega Amen
CBwing0
CDLViking
Zilch
TNChloe
Mave
Kokoro Daisuke
CHORUS of CAA members
Ingemar (leader of first semichorus)
UC Pseudonym (leader of second semichorus)

I'll think about these parameters I set up for myself and hopefully come up with something!!!

*looks at title, then the cast, then the leaders of the semichorus.*

I know you have nothing planned right now, but I do have one question, and I am guessing some other members have this same question also.

What does "Omegaea" mean/signify? If this word is supposed to remain mysterious to the audience as the play unfolds, of course, do not feel the need to answer my question.

Huh, this could certainly be interesting. I'm not too fond of Greek tragedy, which has positive and negative consequences (positive- I don't mind them being lampooned; negative- I won't properly understand everything). As a character, I have at least a minor obligation to read anything you happen to think up, Ingemar. Do I have to do anything as the leader of the second semichorus?

"The Story of Omega." I don't know much Greek myself, but it appears that stories about cetain heroes/villains/whatever are simply modifications of the character's name (ie the Orestia, the Odyssey, the Bakkai/Bacchae, the Telemachaea (the first part of the Odyssey) ). So I simply made something up that sounded Greek-like. There are exceptions, of course (the Ion, Oedipus Rex, Elektra, etc.)

Had it been a story about me, it would have been the Ingemarion]Do I have to do anything as the leader of the second semichorus?[/quote]
As I said, I haven't read that many Greek plays, so we'll see. I am told that the Choral sections (forgot what they're called) were considered the most spectacular events in the plays, in which the Chorus divides itself in half (the semichoruses) and does some outrageous song and dance number. The majority of the dialogue, it seemed, was just "wasted time between Choral numbers." (I don't think so).

Actually, I think the leaders of the semi choruses will be called just that in the play. But their lines will reflect the attitudes of the people they supposedly are. I'm planning the leaders and their respective semi choruses will do a call-and-response sort of deal.

Remember, in the non-song and dance numbers, the Chorus always doubles as some collective body (in this case, the rest of the CAA).

I'm looking forward to this. There are some thing that you can learn about yourself only by having them parodied. ;)

Wow, I think I'm honored...

To be part of such an incredible cast is amazing.

Here goes nothing...

PARADOS (enter CHORUS)

Chorus:
Welcome back my friends
To the Show that never ends
We're so glad you could attend,
Come i--

Leader of the First Semichorus:
No, no, no! Wrong show! That's not we have planned for tonight and the subsequent nights. What we have planned is... um... uh...

Chorus:
Well?

Leader of the Second Semichorus:
Typical. He doesn't know. As usual, I'll have to intervene--

Leader 1SC:
Wait! I remember. The thing is.... hold on-- ah. It's not on my person. In the mean time, I will fly like my legs were the legs of a deer, to high places! That is, my apartment! Where I left my notes! Yah!

Chorus:
In the mean time, we'll practice. Ready?

Hello!
Hello!

HELLO!

Hello, my CAA Island baby
Hello my CAA Island doll (hello my CAA Island dooooolll)
I hope this performance will--please thee
I hope our show will please y'all (I hope we please you all)

Leader 1SC:
Ha! I'm back!

Leader 2SC:
And not a moment too soon. We were able to rehearse uninhibited.

Chorus:
Indeed Master Pseudonym, our practice was unmolested.

Leader 1SC:
Just what are you insinuating?!?

Chorus:
We are wounded! You thusly impeach us, accuse us of thinking of you as a thorn on our collective side, a blister on our collective heel and a boil on our collective bum? Our collective self is outraged! But not in the collective least surprised.

Leader 1SC:
Would you stop saying collective so much? We're wasting valuable parados-time.

Chorus:
Sorry. But how does ours compare to classics such as Spaceballs, Young Frankenstein and Excel Saga?

Leader 2SC:
Parados-- not parody. But I agree. We need to consult the script.

(the CHORUS eyes the text)

(Strophe)
Chorus:
Hear us! Tell us muse, of the deeds of Godlike Omega Amen,
(granted, let us make the disclaimer that there is none like
God, and we disbelieve in the existence of the Muses, but
Mind you this -is- a Greek play), of how he led a handful of the Noble
Through the straights of despair, the tempests of anguish, and
The long lines at Safeway. Show us how the Thoughtful masterminded
The salvation of his comrades, the defeat of his enemies, and
The algorithm to solve that pesky Rubix cube. Oh God, how such things
Are known by you! (and especially that friggin cube!)

Leader of the First Semichorus:
Omega fears God.

Chorus:
Glory!

Leader 1SC:
Omega is wise.

Chorus:
Glory!

Leader 1SC:
The Omega's steadfast faith in the Almighty vanquishes the evil one, like crap through a goose!

Chorus:
....ech, Gory!

(Antistrophe)
Chorus:
The Men of the Alliance, Christian Anime that is, faced peril.
Nuturing Chloe found herself at odds with Father Viking;
An unholy wrath plagued her otherwise noble, far-seeing soul.
This malady was not unlike SARS, though it certainly didn't come about
By eating exotic animals (God forbid! Peter would shut the gates of heaven,
And PETA would have our necks in a pillory). Instead, God knew that
His Enemy sowed the seeds of discord in their hearts, long after sowing
The seeds of Disco in that godless decade, the 70's.

Leader of the Second Semichorus:
What was at first a minor disagreement...

Chorus:
A small one!

Leader 2SC
Balooned into a deadly conflict!

Chorus:
A tall one!

Leader 2SC:
And soon, the patriarchs of the CAA found themselves on the business end of a boomstick!

Chorus:
A... shot gun?

OOC: I don't get it. Am I Nurturing Chloe, and am I supposed to write like the rest of us you dragged into this tragedy? I guess I will if I must. It does sound like... FUN. XD. Just tell me what you want me to do, and I'll try my best, Ingemar. ^_^

OOC: I'm doing all the writing. But if you have any ideas, by all means TELL ME! (PM, though). I'm really making this up on the fly. Don't expect it to be done in a coupla days, cus I'm past the halfway point in my term and things will be hard. I will at least update every weekend. Don't worry--this thing won't be too long

Heh. Not bad at all... I do not believe I've seen anything in this vein for quite some time. I will be quite glad to see the rest of this whenever inspiration or caffeine strikes.

Well, I guess I am set up as the Greek tragic hero....

Since the play has "started," I decided to change Gato's color to my third and final color-edited scheme. I thought this scheme would be more appropriate for this type of play... in my opinion.

I have already subscribed to this thread, and I am glad that I did. I will be very interested in what material you will put in this play.

Omega:
This heart, this soul of mine--
I have not felt this ache since...
Those old days. Could the Divine
Be telling me someting? I wince
At these feelings. They allude
To some unsurfaced terror,
A deep evil, to which no attitude
Dare wish conform to this error.
What is this sorrow? This suffering? What can it be?
God, what dread misfortune wishes the death of me?

Zilch:
Omega! Master Omega, keeper of the great "Amen!"

Omega:
Eh... what is so important, so exquisitely urgent that you must trounce upon my lyric sce--erm, meditation?

Zilch:
The Archives of Reincarnation, conceived of our great Many-Minded Straylight*, are in want of redaction. May you assist?

Omega:
Very well. It's not like I have anything better to do. And you sirrah, what ends have you set upon?

Zilch:
My input is desired in Assembly, regarding white-armed maidens**. Have you heard?

Omega:
Indeed I have, yet my patroness*** was denied passage. I am thoroughly disilusioned, but still hope for the best.

Zilch:
Worry not, thoughtful friend. In the mean time, the Halls of Revelry**** require your immediate presence.

(moments later, in the Goof Off area)

Omega:
Pooh! Such incoherent nonsense is not fitting for one such as myself. Perhaps Averroës (1) could compose a treatise on this. Hello....? Is this what it seems? Oh,

Honor and majesty before Thee!
Strength and beauty are in Your sanctuary...
For gracious is the handiwork of Your intentions,
And man can but scarcely manufacture
Simulacra of Your majestic designs.
Nevertheless, I applaud the artist for his
Delicate strokes, the scupltor for his careful hand,
And-- (2)

Mave:
Get over it, Omega! They're just bishoujo pictures.

Omega:
Gahhh-- I was waxing poetic too --can you not appreciate the care crafted into these maidens? They are not just pretty faces, but from their being proceeds the very milk of human kindness, or marrow of human depravity; from the vast ranges of light and dark, good and evil, we see more than a painted female given the voice of another; we also see the creative mind, the force behind the fire of the shoujo's expression--and we look farther, we see the Mind that created it all.

Mave:
Well said, noble Omega! Your far-sightedness has traversed horizons my feeble capacities may have missed. But then again--can you blame me who is beset with study?

Omega:
Mere toys, when compared with the Lord who lives and reigns forever. Yet I digress, lest another lyric passage of mine gets interrupted. What were we doing again?

Mave:
We were admiring the white-armed maidens. Here is seductive Ryoko-- and there, gracious Belldandy; over here we have enigmatic Ayanami, whilst hither and thither are Narusegawa and Motoko, crowned with most glossy hair and unwholesome rage. Tender Tohru and Kindly Tifa also trail the procession.

Omega:
Wonderfully crafted, yet all expressions of the many distinct who point to the One (3). Thinking upon this returns me to the days of my youth, and to the blissful times when my most wonderful mother. Oh, that God grant me one such as this to guide me through this turbulent and treacherous world, as Virgil to Dante through nexus of the Malebolge, shielding him from the wiles of crafty Geryon--

Mave:
Omega, you're sounding weird again.

Omega:
*ahem* She was a nice lady. My hero.

Speaking of mother... Is that Chloe's picture? It seems so, yet it appears graffito-tagged. Hmmm... (reads it) Oh my! I had better remove that!

Mave:
What's wrong?

Omega:
Don't you mind. Nevertheless, it is rather unglorifying and requires immediate removal. This might be tough, so get me the clorox!

(Enter CHLOE)

Chloe:
Good day! How goes it, Omega?

(OMEGA winces, then freezes in shock)

*The CAA's Bump thread
**The CAA Bishoujo contest. In Greek literature, beautiful maidens were usually described as having white arms.
***Kanoe. Omega Amen voted for her, but she lost.
****The Goof Off forum
(1) Averroës was a Muslim philosopher that accused strict constructionalists of the Koran of "incoherence"
(2) Psalm 96:6, with a slight embelishment. Anyone who has seen Omega's sig, or has been to the Bishoujo thread should know about this.
(3) The "many and the one" is an Augustinian/Platonic notion. PM me for a further explanation.

Ah. Wonderful use of asterisks.

*brewing some tea....*

I have another question. Can you explain the adjective "Many-Minded?" I do not understand it.

Hmmm... Kanoe does have pretty pale skin, so white arms actually applies to her. I have never even looked in the Bump thread, so my curiousity has risen even more now for this play.

Yes, the asterisks were helpful also.

*goes back to brewing tea....*

"Many-minded" is an epithet that describes the subject as clever, strategically and tactically minded. Of course, it has negative connotations too--it could suggest that the subject is devious and duplicitous. This was an epithet to describe Odysseus who was all these things. Greek literature frequently employed epithets.

The next update will be an edit/addition to the previous segment, not a new post.

1st Stasimon

strophe

Chorus:
Hey, hey Omega, watcha doin' there?

Omega:
Not your business, get off my hair!
All I can say is that it's of great urgency
And has to do with Gracious Mother Chloe!

Chorus:
Chloe, oh mother Chloe, Omega's acting real strange!
He's shoving us off, like a madman he's deranged!
Please talk him some sense, because only you
Can shut up this nonsense and find out what's true.

Chloe:
Omega my dear, why the flustered expression?
Don't tell me, Lord no! you have an obsession
With my person or my looks, but Heaven forbid
That you're enamored with me; I'm a wife with kids!

Omega:
It's not that at all, don't get the wrong idea;
You're a kindly soul--who wouldn't wanna see ya?
And as such I need to uphold your honor--

Leader of the First Semichorus:
Off with it, 'Mega, and don't prolong 'er!

Chole:
So what are you doing Omega? You seem unhealthily preoccupied with my picture there. Is there something you want to tell me? I won't judge you. But please do tell, because you've got us all worried (and most especially me!)

Omega:
It's... nothing! Nothing at all--I was... just... admiring your picture! Yes, that's what it was.

Leader 1SC:
By caressing it as a lover? That's all I can stand to hear.
Get you out, you scoundrel, before I kick you out of here!

antistrophe

Chorus:
You saw it my friends, and Omega too confessed
That with sweet Chloe, he's unhealthily obssessed.
So sickening! What kind of Christian are you
That would to a married woman woo?

Leader of the Second Semi Chorus:
Oh tragedy! Oh unholiness! We must
Purge our land of his impious lust!

Omega:
ENOUGH! Enough I say! You wrongfully accuse
Me of a heinous act, and go on and abuse
Me with your words like swords, your pointing fingers like spears;
I do nothing of the sort, and you flay me with melodic shears!

I'm not a criminal! I am innocent of your impeachments, I dare say--

Leaders of the Chorus:
Tell that to Bill Clinton!

Omega:
Nevertheless, leave me be.

Chloe:
If you are so innocent, then you will reveal yourself.

Omega:
My lady, I cannot.

Leader 1SC:
Then you are guilty until proven innocent!

Leader 2SC:
Yet he hasn't proven himself.

Omega:
*sigh* I guess you leave me no choice--

(Omega exposes what he has been covering. The CHORUS all faints in dizzied shock. CHLOE's face turns red with anger)

That is a cross between amusing and slightly disturbing... but I am certain the result cannot be too bad, and will probably be vaguely humorous regardless.
