Pious - a poem

why is it so easy
to forget the Holy one
to focus on trivialities
of things with sustenance
of the great sacrifice
of a man who is also god
who we call "holy one"
we shout it in churches
o yes, the steeples
ring out our praises.
yet our lips grow strangely quiet
when this world's
not to our liking
that's when we turn benedict
and curse our Holy one.
"Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!"
we to the Lamb who was slain
"why, Why have you forsaken?"
we ask to the God who seems away
"No more, no more!"
we cry when the world does wrong
and in this we need to remember our Holy one.
to forget the Holy one
to focus on trivialities
of things with sustenance
of the great sacrifice
of a man who is also god
who we call "holy one"
we shout it in churches
o yes, the steeples
ring out our praises.
yet our lips grow strangely quiet
when this world's
not to our liking
that's when we turn benedict
and curse our Holy one.
"Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!"
we to the Lamb who was slain
"why, Why have you forsaken?"
we ask to the God who seems away
"No more, no more!"
we cry when the world does wrong
and in this we need to remember our Holy one.
