What's a 'one shot'? And I can't remember if there was something about this or not.... :(

I don't know. I don't have my big dictionary any where remotely near me and I'm too lazy to go look it up at dictionary.com. It sounds like the literary form of a one hit wonder.
-a minute later-
I looked it up at dictionary.com and that was of no help. n : a charge of ammunition for a single shot [syn: round, unit of ammunition].

A short fiction. :) Usually 1 chapter sized story in Fanfiction terms..

Aibou has the idea. As far as I know, there is no dictionary for writing terms. You can always ask us, though.

I'll elaborate, though perhaps unnecessarily. Generally, it's a piece that is mean to be short: a single scene, a character's thoughts about an issue, or a small story looking deeper into a character's personality.

Agreed with UC.

Hey, how about a sticky fanfiction terms thread? If there was one, I'd contribute. . .and hey, it might keep some people from getting into things they don't want to. :)

Sounds like a plan. I have no ability whatsoever to do it. Assuming a kindly moderator might do such a thing, what terms would we have? I'd compile a list at the moment, but I'm too busy.

I'd say terms defining content (i.e. a definition of "lemon" so no one stumbles onto a fic like *that* without knowing what it is), terms defining writing style (i.e. "Mary Sue," "OOC," "IC"), and terms defining genre (i.e. "what is the difference between angst, horror, and tragedy," or "what is the difference between humor and parody?") would all be a good place to start.

Hey, mods. . .how about it?
