Chapter 1
"Yuki!"
Hesitantly, Yuki stopped dead in her tracks when she heard the familiar voice. She had managed to avoid Tyler for 3 days now, but time was up and she knew she had to face him.
Turning around, she said. "Hi"
"Hey. I've been looking all over for you. so, do you have an answer yet?"
Yuki saw the fear of rejection in Tyler's eyes. He knew what she was going to say.
Yuki sighed.
"As much as I want to Ty, you know I can't. You know that my mum doesn't allow me to go to dances," she felt very uneasy lying to him, but she also knew that the truth she would never be able to say.
"I....I'm sorry."
Tyler tried to cover up his dissapointment by giving Yuki a smile. But it was a weak one.
"Yeah, I shouldn'ta asked you. But it was worth a shot anyways, he?"
Without another word, he turned around, leaving her standing. Feeling cold and lonely.
--------------------------------
Tyler turned up his stereo. Music rushed through his head.
♪You don't see met at all
You're making me crazy
But still I'm falling all over,
All over in love with
you again
But still no matter what I do
The truth remains:
You don't see me at all♪
He shoved off some manga on his bed and dumped his school bag into a corner. Then he plunged into the softness of his mattress.
He didn't understand her one bit. Since Yuki had come to his school two years ago he had liked her. A lot. But no matter how many times he had asked her out, she had always said no.
She never let anyone in. It was like she was afraid to be close to anyone.
She had 3 close friends and they seemed extremely protective of her. Tyler was almost afraid of them sometimes.
Tyler closed his eyes and let the music take him away. But it wasn't helping. It wasn't helping him at all to forget.
--------------------------------
"Yuki, I'm really sorry"Anika said. She had gone to Yuki's house immediately when she had heard the urgency in Yuki's voice.
Tears were running down Yuki's face.
"I like him so much, y'know? But no matter how much he asks me, I can never say yes. I just wish things could be different. And I hate lying to him. Who am I kidding? I don't even have a mother."
Anika was sitting beside Yuki with a box of tissues.
"I wish I could tell you that I know how you feel. But you know I don't really. But I have a pretty good idea. I mean, when my parents divorced my whole world fell apart. But at least I still get to see them both. But you--" Her voice trailed off.
"It's okay. Yuki said. "All of that happened so long ago. But still..." Yuki got a frightened look in her eyes and her voice grew soft. "Sometimes I can still feel all the needles and machines. I can hear my father saying it won't hurt, but it always did." Her eyes gazed into space, and Anika could see the horror in them. And she wished that she could help Yuki, but she knew she couldn't.
