Prance the Cat

[color=Indigo]Prance the Cat

Prance the cat,
Was dancing cat,
Fancy that

In his house he’s the handsomest male,
All dressed up in a black coat and tail
The white of his chest looks like a suit and tie
And he has a dignified grey by each eye

Whatever way he turns his ear,
“Here kitty, kittyâ€

The Shifting Sands of Time

Postby Jaltus-bot » Tue Aug 24, 2004 6:19 pm

I look out to the desert sands
Into these strange and sunny lands
Here we’re held in God’s very hands

I see across forever
This old earth will never
Tell if we live or die
Beneath this desert sky

The sands of time wash away
The things of yesterday
The desert will unfold
Tomorrows left untold

The shifting sands forever erase
The things that belong to time and space
And all of man’s undisclosed history
Remains to us forever a mystery

The things of God
Are deeper trod
And through Him the lives we touch
May God bless you very much
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

Wow, you're on a poetry binge. ~_^ I can't keep up with all the poems you're writing. All good. ^___^ I liked the cat one.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Apathy and Action

Postby Jaltus-bot » Thu Aug 26, 2004 5:57 pm

Waves of apathy wash over my soul
But nothing will keep me from my goal
I am hesitant
But then I repent

To fight the dream of something new
As a battle raging in you
To live and make it real
This is how I often feel

I watch eagles fly up in the sun
I know I was meant to be as one
This place is not to be my home
Here I was not meant to roam

Where tomorrow lead I won’t fear
Where the present is I am here
Now I we stand and do my best
I can offer no less
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

Awesome poetry, Sheherazade.

There's too much accumulated here for me to read in one sitting. Amazing. Loved the cat poem especially!

I notice many of your poems are in the first person persepective, using 'I' and 'My' alot. As a fellow humble writer, I suggest that you try to find ways of cutting back on the usage of 'I'. (whenever I write something in first person, I usualy am told this as well. Not only can it sound repetative, but it disengages the reader by reminding them that it's not about 'them') There, you see how many times I just used I, in this paragraph? I guess I still need to work on this too!

Life was so different then, so long ago
It seems like only yesterday the world began to change
You were once as the swing on which I played
Now the tree in whose shade I play
You were like the grass on which I ran
Green and wet with dew
Now there's a garden where you grew,
Except it’s not outside but inside you
The flowers in which I laugh and mourn
I know you don’t like for me to cry
There’s no use for tears or sorrow
The sun shines brightly in the sky
I miss the way things used to be
Your face, my arms in yours
You called my name and I came running
Life was simple then, not as it is now
At times you seem so far away
There’s comfort as I feel you present here with me
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

I know this isn't poetry, but I wish to add it anyway. The first was the inspiration for my poem The Shifting Sands of Time.

Armenian Duduk CD "Moon Shines at Night" by Gasparian

1st song: The music warbles like a cry in the desert, crying out for water, only until God who is merciful grants water. In the middle of the desert there is no water: there is only a pure and utter dependance on God for water. No thirst is quenched apart from Him. He is the giver and sustainer of life, in the next world and this.
2nd song: The music has a quality like stillness within movement where the music plays. It is like God calling to us in a busy day. There is a calm to it, at once quiet assurance, struggle and ease.
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

The Archer

The archer's eyes burned in the sun
To him life and adventure were one
He was al gung ho
With his arrows and bow

From his horse he ran
As fast as he can
He was after a rabbit
Though he never could nab it

Life and adventure were one
The hunt was just for fun

A Thousand Stars Shine

A thousand stars shine tonight
It's such a marvelous sight
Glitter poured over the sky
Shining for you and I

Light formed years ago
Destined here to go
A thousand stars for us to see
Now shining here for you and me
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

The Clock on the Wall

Postby Jaltus-bot » Tue Aug 31, 2004 6:16 pm

The clock on the wall is time's delight
Many minutes lost is within our sight
Sounding is tick tocks
It is the clock of clocks

The clock on the wall tells time
Without any reason or rhyme
Biding its time each day,
Its hands tick time away

The clock on the wall ticks into eternity
It is forever lost in perpetuity
It should remind us not of time now spent
But of whether what we do is what we truly meant
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

Fall to Earth

Postby Jaltus-bot » Thu Sep 02, 2004 3:50 pm

Life in a daze
Once lost into insanity
Off in a haze
Living apart from gravity
Lost in a maze

The shadows begin to clear
Now down to earth fall
There’s nothing left here to fear
Falling hands and all
Now wipe away every tear

Doubt is surely shorn
Things of old to relinquish
Lives start to reform
New things become as one might wish
A new dream is born

A new path clears to be tread
Water of life wipes madness away
Know the end won’t be dead
And today begins a brand new day
Even though hearts once bled
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

Revolution in the Night

Postby Jaltus-bot » Sat Sep 11, 2004 1:44 pm

The silence shatters in the night
We sit and hold each other tight
The signs are all around
The revolution will sound

The fire of change spreads across the land
Only God to guide our leaders hand
Before the night is done,
A new world has begun

God be with you in these times
and protect you from men's crimes
To protect you in this place
And on your house be His grace
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

A thousand Stars Shine part 2.

Postby Jaltus-bot » Sat Sep 11, 2004 4:51 pm

A thousand times I've looked at each star
Standing in wonder of who You are
Though such a dark empty night
I find comfort in the light

Over many a light year
each star shines down on me here
A night perfectly still
Beautiful in Your will

Your word made the earth and sky
I might not know how and why
You made the world witha plan
I'm secure here in Your hand
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

When darkness closes all around
And hopes fall quickly to the ground
Hold fast till the morning lark will sound
Tomorrow new hope will soon be found

Though sorrows may last for the night
Joy comes with the morning light
Then sorrows will soon take flight
Life will again be set right
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

Two other things I have in my little note book

Postby Jaltus-bot » Thu Sep 23, 2004 12:45 am

The tides and waves come crashing by
They wash a way the paths we make
The oceans waves make by gones by
Gone are the steps we once could take

And

What shadows fall when light first breaks
The sun warms every breath one takes
The air around me warms
Gone are yesterday's storms
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

:eyeroll: Ok, I started this during Bible study today.

I come to You my Lord,
My heart bleeding and broken
Longing to feel Your love
even one perfect token

Take my heart, my life, my days my nights
I've no life left of my own
Only anger and dispair I cannot rightly bare
This hollow existance of my own

Take this from me Lord
That I might live in Your ways
Not this darkness of my own
Not this dungeon of my making

A light in Darkness

Postby Jaltus-bot » Sat Oct 02, 2004 12:04 am

Thank you for hearing my cry
I’m no longer left to die
I’ve taken so much I’ve lost track
But You still gave me my life back

You’ve unlocked all the doors I was within
And helped me slowly from this dark dungeon
From a world as dark as night
I now have a path of light

Once darkness reigned in this place
Now I have hope in your Grace
You’ve opened up my heart with your love
My spirit soars with peace from above

You have opened the chains that bound my soul
And freed my heart to follow it's true goal
By your hand I now walk along
To the place where I belong
When I feel blue, I start breathing again.

Very nice, very nice indeed.

I'm curious. Have you ever tried writing poetry that doesn't rhythm? It's a different sort of animal... where the poetry lies it it's sentence structure and timing. Here's an example:

Childhood, by Esoteric.

Snow melts so quickly
On the open hills
Where children clumsy
In their over-sized boots
Stumble upward along
The toboggan tracks.
Who cares for the snow in the forest
Sleeping in the deep shade of pines?
It is never used or remembered.
Only the open hills
Beaten by the sun,
Packed tight with each run.
With squeals of joy the children slip away
Tighter and faster they converge
Melting into memories
A dull refelctive pool
Like snow on the edge
On an asphalt road.

I like rhyming poetry, but it has some limitations, especially with today's literary audiences. You already have good pacing in your poems, you should play around with non-rhyming styles as well, to expand your abilities. But hey, you're already a better poet than many of us.

Ditto. ^___^ I love Sher's poetry, it's so pretty. And the same to you, Esoteric.
There's a distinct difference in both writing styles: I've noticed that Sher's poetry represents parts of our spiritual journey as Christians Esoteric paints a vivid picture of life's moments, and the reader can make out of it whatever they wish. More open-ended...
But both are beautiful, and both use scenes from nature and God's creation.
