The Great CAA Manga Challenge!

Postby ChristianKitsune » Wed May 23, 2007 1:05 am

Hey everyone your friendly Neighborhood ChristianKitsune here!!

I have a challenge for everyone!! For some of us it's already or almost summer, and for others...it's still summer but with work....

So I thought of a cool little challenge for all those CAA members who aspire to become Comic Artists for God! ^_^

Sooo how about we start a small group that will keep each other encouraged and energized about each other's projects? Like Comic Artist Accountablilty partners? I know that I would love to have some people jump start me, and tell me to keep going.

Because those of us who want to become comic artists are gonna face LOTS of deadlines...so it would be really beneficial to start now right? Get a little practice?

I am not asking for hefty assignments or anything...maybe a starting goal of 1-2 pages finished a week (but you can go over) and I am talking finished, not sketched but at least ready to be toned... or shaded..

Maybe even the more experienced Artists can give advice to the younger ones?

So...are you guys with me? Does it sound like a plan?

But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. I'm not working on a manga, but if you need someone to bug you about deadlines, I'm good at bugging people. If you want me to, let me know.

I have this idea for a Christian manga that I'm tossing around and some butt kicking would be useful. :J

Does it have to be a blatantly christian manga?

I kept thinking of possibly coming up with a manga that took a futuristic sci-fi spin of biblical events where the characters involved are the ancestors of prophets and will be lead on an adventure through out the galaxy, but will also bring about the final days of man.

It's a rough thought, but it seemed to be a cool idea.

All I can say is you need to take the comic-making seriously. If you have a self-imposed deadline, you've got to make it or do your best to make it. No half-heartedness here, please.

I think the answer is no.

Well... I was kind of out of town when this started (mission trip,) but I have some pages already penciled out, so I may just redraw those. First deadline is this Saturday?

What should we do with finished pages--assuming I ever get that far? Post them in this thread?

Unpayed job opening: Someone to remind me to work on the comic. I get lazy after a few pages and stop progress. Job requirements are to posess my YIM or AIM or Skype or notice my , and, if I am online, see if I am working on the comic or have a good reason not to be.

WELL DONE, Mechana!! :3 Don't worry I will kick you if I have to! :3

Aileen you can post them here if you want to. I am not entirely sure...

There are a few places you could consider for your comic: DeviantArt is one place, but I am a little leary about putting my own comic there... DrunkDuck is another place, but I have heard that it's not as reliable, plus with a name like that...I didn't want my comic assicated with it...

Do you have your own website that can handle the bandwidth?

We set our own deadlines here...if you would like them to be inked by Saturday, that's fine.

I have met my goal, and I am going a little farther with it. I hope to have pages 5 and 6 done by sunday!

I may need a break though, to draw some illustrations. I can't forget taht I have a convention to get ready for! :3 But SMC is sooo fun!!

So, after a little over a week of procrastination, I've finally drawn out some pages. Two are completed--well, I need to scan them and touch them up in MSPaint--and two are still rough drafts.

My goal right now is to have two completed pages every two days. (I'm drawing and shading it all by hand, so it's really not that hard.)

And I do have a DA account, CK, so I'll either post the comic there or in here.

Well, here are my first two completed pages. The goal is to have two more completed by tomorrow. As of now, the comic has no name. It also doesn't make much sense yet. But I'm working on it. Read from right to left.

Aileen, What a CUTE START!! I love it! Keep it up.

Thanks CK!

Well, after an extreme amount of procrastination, I've finally got more pages. \o.o/

Edit: and for some reason, they're out of order... Oh well. Please read pages from right to left.

I liked the update for SMC, CK. Now I'm wondering what will happen next...

I've scripted out the rest of chapter 1 for my comic... now I just need to make myself draw it out. I think I'll post it in the webmanga forum when I finish the chapter. Only... X number of pages left! \o.o/
