Rurouni Kenshin manga

Postby Xeno » Mon Jun 21, 2004 1:26 pm

Is it just me, or is the manga far better than the anime. Even when it gets into the Kyoto arc, which was the best part of the anime, it seems like the manga still outdoes the anime. What is your opinion on this particular manga?

I love the manga and the anime. I think they both have good qualities. The manga can show some things that the show wasn't able to fit into a 22 minute episode span. The nice thing about the show, though, is that everything is vivid and colorful and uh. It's a video. I haven't read all of the manga yet (I got to the beginning of the Kyoto arc and then stopped reading it because the computer connection was so slow at the time), but to me, they are both equally good.
I'm a shoe-in for hater of the year.

hah I'm a manga purist, so I'll say the manga is the best! :thumb:

But to be fair, the anime version of the Kyoto Arc is quite good (Sou-chan, waiii). I would watch it.

I love the manga, but I haven't seen the anime series or the movie "Trust and Betrayal." I did see a movie that was translated as "Samurai X: The Motion Picture" (that's what Kenshin anime is occasionally called). That anime was sooo off-putting that I decided that I wont miss anything if I don't see the series. I could be wrong though. I prefer manga to anime in certain cases.

Samurai X is the American name for it, it's really just called Rurouni Kenshin. And I thought the movie was funny, Sano and his fear of trains.

What got me was the gratuitous use of flashbacks over and over and over and over. I saw it twice, once before I knew Kenshin and after reading the manga and neither time did it impress me. I guess I'm just an idiot.

I can't really decide which one I like best. Watsuki's art can't be beaten, but I love how the humor is played out on the anime. ^_^

Samurai X the movie was great. The anime is good, especially the opening and ending songs, but I stopped watching it after the Kyoto Arc ended, my brother said it wasn't worth watching after that and I took his word for it. The manga is the best! It's supposed to be a lot longer than the anime...

There's another series, think it's the OVA series, out and it's just called Samurai X. The art is a looot different from the original RK art, it looks terrible! That is supposed to back into before he became the Battosai...

The flashbacks in the movie were SOOOO annoying! @@

I was getting kind of irritated with that but overall it was great, save Kenshin's voice in the Japanese version. -.-

I loved the song Towa no Mirai at the end and Rainbow at the beginning, though TnM was better in my opinion.

I like the manga better than the anime because they took out Kenshin's "oros" and him adding "dono" to everyone's names. That was funny.

Overall I'd like the manga better because it's far more easy to "edit." Besides, Wastuki Nabuhiro draws like it's nobody's business.

I've never had a chance to see the anime series, but I have read the first couple of volumes of the RK manga and I enjoyed it very much!

I've seen the anime series, only dubbed, and the manga is better in some cases. (like the end) For instance there is a really cool character at the end of rurouri kenshin but he's only in the manga, I was upset about that. Of course I like seeing kenshin in color so really I like them both.

Hmm yes it is very good. :)

I have the entire Rk Tv series subtitled VHS, and I have one reason I say I like the anime better than the manga(both of which are great!). I really like it when Kenshin says "oro" and hearing "gozario(sp?)." Also I like the music, but cannot stand the english version of "Freckles." The main reason I like it better is the sound!

I haven't read all the kenshin manga but I hear that it has a different ending (yes I know what that ending is.). I am not sure if I would like a different ending. :eh:

One other thing: Didn't the kenshin mangas all hit the top 10 for sales? I think that alone is proof that it is exceptional. :thumb:
