Can I get some manga reccomendations from you guys? I like Rurouni Kenshin, Trigun, Naruto, Candidate for goddess, Azumanga Daioh, and Angelic Layer. Also, can someone give me a good Christian review of the Flame of Recca manga, and the manhwa, Now? Speaking of manga and manhwa, could someone also tell me the difference between manga and manhwa? Thanks!
God bless you,
Jon
Okay, here we go. Read Fruits basket.
If you like Azumanga Daoih, you like comedy. It's really funny and it's a great story.
Synopsis: Fruits Basket is centered around Tohru. Through various curcuimstances, Tohru is forced to live out of a tent in the woods. After a land slide in which her house is destroyed, she is invited to live with the mysterious Sohma family. Soon, Tohru comes to understand that there's something very different about the Sohma's.
Very different.
As far as objectionable content:
To begin, it's rated Teen, which gives you a pretty good idea about the levels of the following things I'll mention.
A) There are transformation sequences which characters end up with no clothes on. As I've mentioned before, nothing is shown. There's always a cloud or a something covering them. (If you're confused, just think back to your Bible school days. You remember those movies about creation when God was talking with Adam and Eve. You know how a giraffe would always bend down right in time to cover their indecency. The same rule works with Fruits Basket)
B) There is a moderate amount of cussing. (It's really just one character) It's all s***, and D*** if I remember properly.
C) There are characters in the future
might be homosexual. I don't really think they are, but that's for you to judge. I thought I picked up on one, but my sister didn't.
D) The Chinese Zodiac is a primary element of this manga. It's not use to predict futures of anything, but the idea it's self is an element in the plot.
Hmmm. . . that's all I can think of. There really are some great lessons one can learn fruits basket, and I personally believe that Tohru (main character) is quite possibly one of the most self-less characters in any manga I've read thus far. (Yay Tohru!!!)
If Fruits Baskets isn't grabbing your attention, you should check out DNAngels.
It's the story of young Daisuike(sp?). On his fourteenth birthday, Daisuike discovers that he transforms into a notorious theif named Dark when ever he looks at the girl he has a crush on. Daisuike strikes out on a quest to rid himself of this plague, and he steals stuff, gets into uber amounts of trouble, and tells a down-right good story in the mean time. I know, that was a lowsy synopsis, but my brain is already cramping up and I still have to do a content thingy.
Okay, content:
A) I don't remember if there was any language. For that reason, I'm gonna assume it did. It was minor if it was there at all, becuase I would have remembered anything extreme.
B) There was one point when Daisuike accidentally walks in on the girl's locker room (their locker room was broken so they were changing in the class room. He went back for a book he left, and viola! So, he's not a pervert
.) All the girls are atleast in their undergarments. There no more than a page of them staring at him in total disguist.
At another point, DArk is trying to escape and he stumble in on either Risa or Riku (Don't you dare expect me to tell them apart. They're twins for goodness sake!!!) She starts to scream, of course. And he kiss her to shut her up. This bothered me zero, but I'd hate for your to be surprised.
C) Dark is called something along the lines of a "fallen angel." This is really just a title, and, from what I understand, It doesn't have anything to do with acutal demonic activity.
D) Lastly, there's one character who is only introduced in the first volume who is beind taught to summon these creature which are suppose to aid her in combatting-- spirits of some sort. They could have been demons, but I don't think that was the word used.
There aren't any anti-christian messages in either Fruits Basket or DNAngels.
I believe that's all. Anyone add anything if they think I've over looked it. I hope this helped, Wiggins. Sorry for the delay.
