Who loves it?!

I wasn't sure whether to start a separate thread for this topic, as MT was sneaking into the end of another thread (favorite manga), but thought I'd give it a try anyway. Gypsy, I don't know if you read Fred's rant the other day but the contract with IC Entertainment is off, so MT Volume 2 isn't going to be released by that company (who released V1), and I would guess there will be a delay as Fred finds a new company to release printed Magna. You can find the first volume at different online stores, and I even saw one at Borders the other day (I was kind of surprised).

But anyway, are there any other Megatokyo fans out there? If you haven't read it before, I'd highly recommend it. The art is fantastic, it's often humorous, it has something for just about everyone, and best of all, you can see it online for free (can't beat that)!

And who is your favorite MT character? Mine's Kimiko.

I can relate to Piro pretty well, so I'd say he's my favourite character. It's a great manga, just haven't checked it for a long time...

Yeah, I'm a pretty big fan. I'm of two minds with regards to it though. I like the depth that's going into the story lines, but I really miss the kind of jokes the comic had when Largo was still one of the writers (start from the beginning and you'll see what I mean).

*edit: not really sure that I have a favourite character. I used to like Largo (the character, not the author's pseudonymn) more than I do now though. He seems to be going off the deep end (well more than usual)...

Bummer, but Fred knows what he's doing. Now I'm glad I might not have to pay money for "Warmth." His art was the only real reason I bought Amerimanga anyway.
My fav char ... after thinking about it, I think I like Erika the best. Her morals are hinted to be off-colored, but as you find more about her, you figure out why she takes attitudes about such things. She's incredibly loyal to her friends, but not clingy. And she breaks fanboys' arms. I found that amusing.

I'm a big MegaTokyo fan. I'm always checking for the new additions. I would have to say my favorite character is Sheraphim. An angel with attitude and a very dry sense of humor. I can relate.

i read MT too.

i still remember writing this program code that generates this enoumous HTML file that shows all possible strips to this day. i hope it didn't affect the traffic... i don't think it did, considering mine really is only a 56k modem :P

anyway, my fav character would be Pirogoeth. you know, Piro's avatar online. just so happens my RPG avartars are usually chosen as females instead of guys...

Yeah, although Kimiko's my favorite character, I'd have to say I relate to Piro the most. I understand the mixed feelings people have about the transition from more Largo-style humor to more Piro-style storyline. I personally prefer the storyline part, but the humor has its place too. It's nice to get a mix of both!

Lightning just struck near here and I think sparks actually jumped out of my keyboard. Gotta' go!

I'm not a long time fan of MegaTokyo, much more recent. I'm pleased to see that he's taken things in a more serious direction, as opposed to random humor. Some people like this, and I'm not among them.

My favorite character is Junpei. I'm surprised no one has mentioned him. They sell his Ninj4 jacket on Thinkgeek. I'd buy it, if it wasn't ridiculously expensive.

Well, I kept reading and reading last night until 4 AM thinking the story was going to go somewhere, only to be disappointed. Not to mention it takes approximately one millenia for the image to load, only for it to be filled with stick figures....>:[

Aww, Shirt Guy Dom's awesome. The story does sort of meander quite a bit, especially in the early stages (which is a lot of set up anyways; funny setup though). The current strips are developing the storyline pretty heavily however.

Well, I think I'll hold my tongue regarding Shirt Guy Dom, but yeah, I have to agree with Technomancer that the story has been developing well over more recent comics. That's kind of the tradeoff: Largo's humor for Piro's story. Has anyone seen them "live" at an anime convention? I saw them at Anime Central in Chicago earlier this year, and it was pretty hilarious, although more than a little inappropriate at times (about 90% of that inappropriateness being Dom).

*approaches podium* Um, hi, my name is Ash and I'm a megatokyo addict. <que audience> I got into MegaTokyo yesterday night on a whim...could be that my mind was shot from work and none of my online buddies was very talkative. As of today I'm on #18something. I like Largo. And Boo. And Piro. And one day I will do something in the style of MT.

Welcome to the club Ash. Yea it does take quite Awhile to chatch up if your new to MT. I wanna do somthing like Mt too. Well I was hoping to get somthing out by the end of summer but my drawing skillz are really bad, but Piro thinks his drawing skillz are bad too. I think he can draw alot better than I can. My idea for my MT style manga is like MT but it follows Christian Anime fans and thier attempts to tell parents, pastors, and fellow freinds that anime is not evil nor is it porn. Then comdey ensues.

Go to this strip and then read Piro's rant down below the strip. This should explain it. I don't know if this link will work. If it doesn't go to Megatokyo and under the scrolldown menu for strips go to #275. Then proceed to the rant.

Hope this clears things up.

Okay, a very happy update for all you other Megatokyo fans! I just read on the MT website that Volume 2 of the manga will be released in January 2004 by Dark Horse Comics. Here is a link to the info. Go down to Piro's rant and that will explain it, along with a sneak preview of the cover!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Oh and I have one of the "special edition" MT's now....wow, I feel fuzzy.

Also, Amerimanga started to run Fred's other manga "Warmth." Because Amerimanga is by IC, I don't think "Warmth" will be printed in Amerimanga. However, you might as well grab issue #4. Also, in issue #3 is a "Warmth" poster.

Largo is 1337! He's so hilarious!

Oh, real nice intro huh? Well I read the whole thing for hours a month or so ago, and I loved it! It's like Penny Arcade, but clean, as well as really nicely drawn. Largo is hilarious, him and his 1337n355. But I relate to Piro more, even if Largo has an awesome little guardian angel thing. Boo! I want an 3vi1 1337 shirt, that would be so awesome...

I'll see about hookin' you up with one Spence. Personally, my favorite character would be the L33T Ninja Junpei. Although Largo's tied with him....I really do love Largo. I just hope I don't end up marrying someone like him...as hilarious as that would be, I'm not sure I could handle it.

I think you can pick up the 3v1l 1337 shirts from ThinkGeek (or whatever they're using)... I need to speak to my bank about getting a checkcard again (grrr).

I picked up a copy of MT1 (chapter 0) at a local Walden books (of all places) the other day. I asked the guy at the counter if they could order it (didn't expect that they'd be able to) and he said they should be in stock... sure enough ...walked away with it.

How cool is that?

Megatokyo, where to start . . .

I've been an MT addict since the end of January/early February . . . when I read through the entire archive in two or three days rather than study for exams . . . lol

Since then I've been following the story and occasionally posting in the forums (those rabid MT fans are insane! lol).

Like a lot of fanboys, I relate the most to Piro, but my favourite character is Kimiko . . .

I was at CN Anime in Toronto for all three days, and I got to go to both the Megatokyo Panel on Saturday, and the Webcomics Panel on Sunday, both done by Fred "Piro" Gallagher with his wife Sarah (the real life inspiration for Seraphim).

It was the highlight of the entire convention! Even though all the panels were just Q & A sessions, they were by far the best, most hilarious Q & A sessions I've ever been to. What with Sarah's MT Frequently Asked Questions - "Piro is a boy! Always has been, always will be", the Chips Ahoy! box that Fred tried to read the French side of..., the Miho Blanket Prototype that Fred and Sarah held up, the MT cosplayers, and so much more . . .

Oh, and most of the convention, when not at panels, Fred and Sarah were busy at a booth signing autographs and giving away free sketches!

I got my MT lithograph, and my Megatokyo Volume 1, signed by Fred and Sarah!!! Seeing them in real life is so cool!!

Fred even asked what character I wanted him to draw and now I have a 30 second sketch of Kimiko in my MT Volume 1!!! ^_^

Funny how that little 30 second sketch is better than anything I could ever draw . . .

Oh, and I also got for $25, a limited edition "Adventures in the land of B33R!" CN Anime, Megatokyo T-Shirt!!! It is sw33t!!!

Anyway, drop me a line if you're ever on the MT forums, I go by the same name there . . .

Finally. You're the first person who likes him too. Remember the filler "L33t folding skills?"
