Well, I haven't read any of the ones you're asking about, but from what you've said that you already read, you might like the Full Metal Panic Manga, and the Rurouni Kenshin manga. Lots of action and comedy in both.

I've read the first part of Rave Master 1, and flipped through 2 and 3; there's some violence with some blood, but nothing too bad, as far as I've seen. TokyoPop rated it ages 7+ (I would have rated it a little higher), but it's not bad. Also, the plot seems pretty cool so far.

I'd suggest basically all of Shonen Jump's lineup, but I don't really know about any of the ones you mentioned.

Crayon Shinchan is one of the more famous "dirty" comics. Eventhough the artwork is simple and the main character an elementary student, it's full with suggestive humor and "reproductive organ art". Shin-chan himself is a very naughty boy and somehow very sexually active for a boy his age. Great humor--bad topics. Stay away from Crayon Shin-chan.

Fushigi Yuugi the manga has the usual shoujo nudity (not really much seen but kinda graphic at the same time) and in the later volumes gets a bit tiring with all the guys attempting to rape Miaka. Then it's gets tiring with Miaka and Tamahome in varying degrees of un-dress and/or kissing every few chapters. Not really my type of shoujo for these factors.

Flame of Recca is VERY heavy in violence but other than that I don't remember anything else to look out for (except the once in a while swear word or two). Same goes with Battle Angel Alita--graphic violence and probably some nudity... haven't read enough manga to confirm the nudity part...

The other titles seem to be harmless enough ^^

Rave Master's pretty clean from what I've read of it although currently I've only read volume 1.

IF, and only if... you can stomach heavy gore... I might recommend "Blade of the Immortal". It's a manga I enjoy, but it is very, very bloody.

It's a story about a samurai who is unable to die and a teenage girl who hires him as a bodyguard as she quests to avenge the murder of her family. The villains of the story are a sword school which has been going around killing the members of all the other sword schools in Japan to establish themselves as the only school. Rin's (the girl) parents were killed by this order. Manji, the samurai of the story (actually an ex-samurai, a ronin), has in his body these worms that repair his wounds whenever he is wounded. He once worked for a corrupt lord and killed 100 people in his service. The only way now for him to be rid of the worms and finally be able to die is for him to make up for 100 good men by killing 1000 evil men. Manji winds up joining up with Rin and protecting her... because she reminds him of his dead sister.

It's a very interesting story and the characters are facinating. My favorite is Rin, though I also like the main villain, Anotsu (his past is pretty sad!) . I mainly like this manga for the art style, though. It's not drawn in the typical manga style... it has more of a "fine art" style to it. The gorey parts, too... are neat to look at just because they are drawn so... artisically. I read it and am like... "people are getting sliced up... but it's... pretty!" :wow

It's a good action manga, but I have heavy warnings on it. You've got to be able to take blood. Blade of the Immortal has a lot of blood. There's off-screen rape (not shown, just.. you know what's happening), and some cussing. The most heavy warning this comes with is for the blood. And, well, it's a story about vengence, so if you are really uncomfortable with that... I don't recommend it.

I like Inu-Yasha, it's more humor than action. But there is plenty of action really. A little nudity, everything you'd expect from Rumiko. Otherwise, I'm the shojo manga queen, that's all I got.

I'm not sure. I've never seen or read Akira. It's probably about the same. Blade of the Immortal is a samurai manga... lots of battles, guys slicing each other up, that kind of thing.

I have read the first two volumes of Azumanga Daioh, and it is very funny and extremely entertaining. It has a unique sort of humor and the characters are very engaging. I recommend it.

You've mentioned three of my favorite manga that I have to run to the Waldenbooks and buy when they come out. It's Azu Manga Daioh, Rave Master, and Flame of Recca.

Azu is crack up, lol funny. It's probably the best comedy manga out there.

Rave Master, I just read Volume 6 and it is the best in shonens. The story is getting so good. Just some violence; but nothing worse than Shonen Jump stuff.

Flame of Recca is just so cool. I like the girl, Fuka who uses wind power. She is so funny and beats up Recca all the time. It's got some violence, but nothing else really. Oh wait, in Vol. 3 there is partial nudity; but, it's drawn with sheets always covering the main parts.

I'd give these all appropriate for teens and mature pre-teens like my daughter. They're average manga material.

For action, comedy and mystery...well, I don't really know of any big 'mystery' mangas (maybe The Big O). Action and comedy though: Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai Deeper Kyo, and Love Hina. Worst you'll see in any of the first three is the usual nudity-without-anything-shown, and a small amount of blood. As far as LH goes, not much blood, but quite a lot of compromising positions (which are inherent to the plot, since the main character is viewed by all the girls as a pervert because of his horrible luck--constantly getting into these compromising positions accidentally), and it's a romantic comedy.

"Quite a lot" in this case meaning about every five pages in the beginning. It gets toned down towards the end of the series though. And for mysteries, The Kendachi Casefiles are pretty good.

Ah! Just thought of something when someone mentioned mystery... a manga I love that has some mystery in it, though it's really a mix of things... action, drama... probably mostly drama...

"Adolf" by Osamu Tezuka. I made a topic about it here some time ago...

I've read the first 3 of the 5 volume graphic novel series. I'm looking forward to getting and reading the remaining two. The story is a historical drama about people caught up in the events prior to and during World War II. It reads... like watching a good historical Stephen Spielburg movie, at least it felt that way to me. The mystery comes in with a set of documents, a letter, containing proof of Adolf Hitler's Jewish ancestry. If these get into the right hands, the Thrid Reich will topple. The story of the manga revolves around people who become involved with this letter, namely, a German-Japanese boy named Adolf Kaufman, a Jewish-Japanese boy named Adolf Kamil, and a newspaper reporter named Sohei Togei.

The whole reason Togei gets involved IS a mystery/detective story! His involvement starts with the murder of his brother in Germany, which he sets out to solve. His brother's body dissapears, and the hospital and the authorities deny knowing anything about the murder, and Togei sets out to figure out what's going on... he gets involved with Nazis, who torture him... and learns of these special documents that his brother's Communist cell were trying to keep safe - and sent back to Japan.. Togei winds up tracing things back to his home country of Japan... the second volume... the poor guy! He gets harranged by mysterious figures from the Japanese goverment... Oh, and there's yet another murder mystery involved... the murder of a Geisha by Adolf Kaufman's father...

The manga is very complicated and has a lot in the way of good mystery! Highly recommended, though the art style may not be what you are used to. It was drawn by Osamu Tezuka in the old, original manga/anime style that he pioneered - "Adolf" is his most realistically-drawn manga, but the characters still have a bit of a round, cartoony feel to them. Still, a very serious and dramatic manga, and very good.

Osamu Tezuka is one heck of a great storyteller if you don't mind his art (I myself don't like it, it's kinda cartoony and reminds me of Popeye). But there's plenty of action and humor there.
However, Hayao Miyazaki's four-part "Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind" series is hands down the best manga I have ever read. It's got wonderful art, great action and drama, memorable characters, and a beautifully crafted storyline. It's kinda hard to find, but I highly recommend it to any manga fan.

I would definitely say NO Crayon Shin-chan. It is TERRIBLELY unclean, even though it's supposed to be about a kid. Definitely hentai! I've never read the manga of Fushigi Yuugi, only watched the anime, and it's all right. I mean, there's definitely shojo stuff in there (like bathing in the river~~nothing shows though) but nothing too graphic.
If you like action and comedy, definitely stay with Rurouni Kenshin. It has very good morals~~in fact, I think on a thread about RK, someone commented that if there was a missionary over in Japan during that time, Kenshin would be Christian! I agree w/ that wholeheartedly. I LOVE Rurouni Kenshin.
Hmmmm...I have heard rumors that Detective Conan manga will be released in the U.S. in 2004. You may want to look out for that~~it's clean and has many good morals. A combination of what you like, actually~~mystery, action, and comedy. It's my absolute favorite.
Well, there's my ten-cents worth...now off to write a fanfic...

Woot! If I'm thinking of the same Manga, they had done a sidebar in one of the magazines a while back that was talking about it, and it sounded like a great Manga.
