I haven't read the manga lately, but considering what I've seen so far, my answer would be: NO, his trigger is NOT love.
Main reason: Dark and Krad are opposites. Their names are mirrors of one another. If you take a picture of Dark and invert its colors in Photoshop, you get blonde hair and blue eyes. Dark is black, Krad is white. My guess would be that there is also a very major difference between their triggers.
Personally, my guess would be that strong feelings of comraderie are the trigger. Why? Daisuke is the first real friend Satoshi has had - yes, the girls all pine after him, and he's smart and people like him, but until Daisuke NO ONE made any effort to actually befriend him because they more revered him than appreciated him. While Satoshi definitely doesn't always express this, especially when Krad first appears, I think it's fairly obvious.
In fact (semi-rant mode, skip if you want) I think a LOT of people notice this. However, they misinterpret the relationship as "love" or "like" rather than friendship. It's something that's becoming very common in today's era, where men are expected to be strong and macho - when close friendships form that are more than "DUDE, look at the hot chick, you think I can date her?" the first conclusion that people tend to jump to are "are those guys gay?"
I sincerely believe that this is what happens - case in point, Satoshi and Daisuke. Frodo and Sam from Lord of the Rings. Haruka and Kantarou from Tactics. Yukiru Sugisaki has never, to my knowledge, written anything even slightly homosexual, and neither has JRR Tolkein or Sakura Kinoshita. Why then do we so much...YEAH between all these characters? ^^ See the above paragraph.
