Get Backers

I just got the 3rd vol. of Get Backers and I was so happy to read it and finish it today^^ all good things must come to an end, I guess.
They made Kazuki a girl. =_=
I doubt this was just a mistake made by the transslators, cause Shidou said: "he he...I think i'll let her fight Ginji" Shidou could not have mistaken Kazuki for a girl cause he's known him for a long time. So i'm wondering if anyone can show me scanlation site, or someone who has read farther then me tell me if they correct this?
Thank you for reading all through this^^

Actually, for the manga that was a correct translation. The manga, if you couldn't tell, takes a slightly different, and usually more perverted, take on the stuff that goes on in the anime.
It's also not as light hearted as the anime is in many spots. I'm up through #8 so far.

ANIME MAN, are you saying that Shidou does not know that Kazuki is a guy, or he blissfully accepts him as a girl? I'm a bit confused. Would this be a case of a guy who acts like a woman? Such as the character in the "Blind Swordsman Zatoichi," where the younger brother went through life as a girl and just got used to acting like a girl? Sorry if I asked too many questions. I'd love to know how much more perverted this series gets.

Considering that both Kazuki and Shidou are among the leaders of the Ura Shinjuku, I would assume that Shidou always knew Kazuki's gender. I personally think there was a mistake in the translations since the manga scanlations I've read always referred to Kazuki as a 'him'.
As for the sexual perversion aspect, from what I've read (~Vol 5-6?) there is no sex but some female characters have ridiculously huge chests, wear the most skimpy clothes ever and Ban has a habit of 'grabbing' these females with his hands. This is probably why I stopped reading the manga.
I'll give the anime a chance though despite the subtle shonen-ai hintings (which from what I understand, isn't present in the manga at all).

That is correct, the Manga isn't shonnen-ai-ish at all, however its more perverted in a sexual way. However, the anime was more shonnen-ai-ish then the manga.

In the manga its a girl, in the anime it was a guy. The two take different twists on the characters. If you want perverted messed upedness then read the manga. If you want Shounnen-ai-ish then watch the anime.
Its kinda like Scryed and Samurai Deeper Kyo. The manga is not the anime and the anime is not the manga. The two are completely seperate entities to themselves cause each tells a different story even if they have the same characters.

I actually think they do correct this later on. ^_^ I need to read GetBackers myself, but a friend of mine mentioned it to me when we were talking about translations screwing up character's genders (ha ha, guess how that one started. XD) But anyways, she said she wrote a letter to TokyoPop concerning the mistake and it was fixed by the next volume. ^^

ah, thanks Kokoro-san^^
In the manga its a girl, in the anime it was a guy.
So you are saying Kazuki's a girl in the manga? I've seen scans of the manga with Kazuki without his shirt on and he's definatly a guy.

Eh, I say skip the manga and anime all together and save yourselves the trouble, but that's just me.

I would if this was any other manga, but i've already seen ther anime and love it to death. So to me it's like I gotta read the manga it just doesn't feel right if I don't, plus I hear it goes farther then the anime so thats another reason.

=/ Unfortunately Shao, this is a thread about the series itself, not the morals or ethics in it and not how "gender appropriate" Kazuki is, so I reccomend you give it a rest. If you don't feel the series is good to read, then don't read it. Obviously chibi feels different.
I was going to check out the manga yesterday at the book store, but they didn't have volume one.
Why does every vol. 1 have to disappear when I wanna read it?! T_T

I consider the job done when I've reported the contents of a title. I expect everyone to take responsibility for their own educated choices.
There is a reason Kazuki looks like a girl. I can't say I find it justifiable but it doesn't bother me unless they overplay the Kazuki/Jubei or Ginji/Ban theme.
