Dear Mine

I have been restraining myself from posting this thread for a VERY long time, so -- if I get carried away-- you'll understand why. With that aside--
I just finished reading the MOST ADORABLE ROMANCE MANGA EVER!!!
Okay, it's called "Dear Mine". It's the story of a seventeen year old girl named Satoko who discovers one day that her family owes a huge debt, one they could never hope to have the money to pay back on their own. Luckily, a second party steps in and offers to pay the debt-- on one condition: that Satoko marry their president.
Naturally, Satoko is shocked. But little does she know that this suprise in the smallest of those in store for her. The bigger surprise comes when she meets her fiancee and discovers that he's-- more than four years younger than her!!
What could become of young Satoko, she who dreamed of nothing more than a simple high school romance?
Well, what I discovered in Dear Mine was one of the most touching, subtle, and innocent love stories I've ever read. At first, when I read the synopsis, I(as I assume you all are too) was like-- ":shady: That age difference is weird. And wrong. And gross. And (etc.)" But since it was suggested for all ages (And is really clean), I went ahead and got a chapter or two and *poof* I was hooked. Like Full Moon, you quickly forget that Fuuma, Satoko's fiancee, is younger than her. He jus acts so mature and kind that he quickly become an adult in your mind. Not a child.
Oh, you guys simply must read it! It's only available by scanlations (Endless Dimension), but if you PM me I can give you the simple directions to one place where you can get all twenty-one chapters. Oh, it's so wonderful *huggles the uber adorable Fuuma*

It's funny, when I read it, I read the last tow chapter in the wrong order. Sorta anti-climactic.
Did you really think the ending was that abrupt? I sorta liked the ending. . .

Just finished reading. That is, as they say in Sweden, pretty awesome. A few thoughts:
Hagane stole my hair!
Takachiyo ownz all. I do not know any other character that can still be considering flamingly cute while almost causing a girl to plummet to her doom. Did anyone else feel that Shigeru put more effort into drawing him than most everybody else?
I like all of the inner monologue, although I sometimes had trouble figuring out who was thinking what.
I didn't like Kazumi(?) at first, but by the end she was one of my favorites. I can't say I've ever been in her shoes but I've been on both ends of something close and a lot of it looked very familiar. Painfully familiar, even. Really, there were plenty of things in this manga that made me feel that way. Even though my life has never been that crazy it felt like I had been there before. Very good stuff.

Age differences don't normally bother me...Kenshin and Tomoe had an obvious age difference with Tomoe being older (that was so strange...), and Kenshin and Kaoru have an age difference of 11 years.

Who? Tachiyo, who was that again? Oh I'm so bad with names. I need to read the manga again.

Oh, totally agree with you on this score. The story telling style was very interesting and engaging, but it was still confusing. I wish the mangaka could have put a difference in the kinds of bubbles that each character's dialogue was in. That would make it alot easier. I had to read a couple pages more than once to figure out who said what!

Kazumi scared me. I'm glad I never had to baby sit any kids like her.
But really, I felt very sorry for her. Childhood crushes are the worst. Her little eyes were so cute though!
My Favorite character was definitely Fuuma. He was just so adorable and still so adult. I especially loved when he's loosen his tie. HOW ADORABLE!! (Isn't that right, T-chan.

Takachiyo is Fuuma's baby brother (the two-year-old), and Hagane is Fuuma and Takachiyo's, um, keeper?

I noticed also that there were several thoughts that could have at least started from any of the characters in the scene. Maybe it was Takao's somewhat convoluted way of suggesting that everyone was thinking the same thing without distancing the thoughts by explicitly addressing them as collective. Or, maybe I'm just thinking that that would be an awesome thing to do were it pulled off right. In this case I think we're just looking at bad layout.
Overall though I thought it was some of the best paneling I've ever seen. Takao had a very conscious control of pace throughout the entire series that is better than that of any other manga I can think of.
And Fuuma is pretty awesome. My favorite scene with him is when he and Takachiyo are wearing the crowns and he makes Satoko wear those beggar's clothes. For me that summed up his whole, er, idiom pretty well and was really cute to boot.

Oh, him! Oh yeah, he was kissably adorable! Now that I know who you're talking about, I'd say you're right. I think Shigeru enjoyed drawing "the baby."
