Hot Gimmick

Postby Mangafanatic » Sun Oct 10, 2004 4:07 pm

I picked up the first volume of Hot Gimmick, and I really think the style is adorable. But I have a few questions for anyone who's read more than the twenty pages I read.

Why did I not complete the first volume? Well, the "You are my slave" *evil laughter* was really quite annoying. So, could you tell me just how long this particular story line persists, and how prominent it is later. Furthermore, is there any thing else I would object to?

Thanks for your help!
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

uh oh...Hot Gimmick

where shall I begin? Ok, I own 4 volumes to date and have flipped through Vol 5.

Storyline:
For some complicated reason *rolls her eyes* , Hatsumi, the main female protagonist and her family are at the complete mercy of the landlady where they live. Now, Hatsumi's bratty little sister did something very stupid and now, Hatsumi ends up being blackmailed by Ryoki, the bully son of the landlady, thus you have the slave concept.

To add to the complications, here comes Hatsumi's old crush, Azusa, who seems to be the 'handsome knight in shining armor' who saves her from Ryoki....or is he? He has some games of his own and Hatsumi is one of the players.

Personal Opinion?:
Read this only if you can tolerate lower standards of sexual morality in comparison to Christian standards and the typical lovesick confused teenager girl. The art is very good but the characters tend to do things that make me cringe. I also recall some cussing.
NEGATIVE
1. Akane, the bratty little sister sleeps with many guys and thinks she's popular. She is the one who needed birth control pills. -_-;;
2. Ryoki tends to force himself on Hatsumi since she's HIS slave. *Jerk* It goes further than kissing sometimes. >_<;;; I REALLY HATE THIS.
3. Azuma tries to get Hatsumi drunk. Later on, he attempts to have her gang-raped.
4. Parents are thought to be involved in adultery. Looks like the parents aren't such good role models.
5. Intense kissing scenes and talk about free sex happens every now and then.
6. Hatsumi is generally treated like a doormat. She gets harassed and abused. It's kinda pathetic.
7. There are some hints of a sexual relationship between the tutor and student.

POSITIVE:
1. Shinogu and Subaru are the two most decent and nice guys who have respect for love and girls (IMO). They don't seem to desperately want sex unlike *some* other guy.
2. Hatsumi is a nice girl actually. It's too bad she ended up in such a scenario.
3. Asuma can be nice sometimes, he was kind when ppl abuse Hatsumi's little brother.
Do expect some love triangles and scandals to enfold. I don't know how this ends but I was starting to get frustrated by the 4th volume. To be frank, I only buy this manga for the art and the nice brother, Shinogu. heh
