On a sad note: do you think you could shrink the image in your signature a bit? It's good, but large.

Improving: I have read all of the Legend of Zelda manga, expect the last issue of the Oracle of Time volume. By large I enjoyed it, though I have my complaints. What are you working on, manga-wise? I'd be very interested in seeing it.

Zelda, one of the best series ever made. The only reason i bought an N64 was for Zelda 64 and Majora's Mask. Though i never knew they had a manga, but i do believe there is a animated series of it. Anyways, I just can't wait until the new gamecube zelda comes out (TBA 2005). The screen shots and video clip look awesome!

We do have a thread about that, if you search for it.

I think it might be impossible to buy the Zelda manga in the states.

For the record, yes, there was an animated series. In my mind it wasn't that great.

You know, i heard the same from someone long time ago. Though i kinda wanna see them, I'm not to sure anymore. Is it the story premise that is bad or just the whole series in general?

Let me say this up front: I have seen only the first episode and several parts of the others. However, because I disliked the first episode strongly, I did fairly extensive research on the rest of the series. Hence, I am somewhat familiar with what happens, how well the scripting works, the continued story, etc.

I would say part of both. For one, the premise suffers immensely. The Legend of Zelda is a rich world, but the series creators opted for a somewhat pathetic episodic concept: Link is at Hyrule Castle defending the Triforce from Ganon. Ganon tries (and fails, obviously) to get the Triforce episode after episode...

Meanwhile, I'd also say the series isn't that great. A few plots deserve note... but most are cheesy or at times stupid. The action and animation aren't great, but I'm not going to knock on a series just because it is cold. Also, the dialogue suffers somewhat.

All in all, I'd argue that it isn't worth the time of anyone but a hard-core fan.

Zelda Manga Local

Postby Linksquest » Mon Aug 30, 2004 6:07 pm

OK! I have the solution to your problems!!! Ok, if you go to http://www.zeldalegends.com they have a manga section there for Ocarina of Time manga, Majora's Mask Manga, and even other magas like the Oracle ones. Yeah, and the Cartoons were shaddily constructed i must admit, although it was hilarious to hear LInk say over and over again, "Well, Excuuuuuuse me, Princess!" It def got old after the 3rd time in the 1st episode, but still i think that every serious zelda fanatic should see the episodes at least once. The problem is that Zelda doesn not have a serious Anime to follow up on its awsome Manga! Many people have done petitions to Nintendo asking them for an Anime series or at least an Anime Movie, but nintendo has not agreed to any of these requests. Some say that nintendo does not want to make an anime series because the over exposure would, "kill them," which i think is ludicrous!!! Online though, they do have falsh animations made by so called zelda fans, but half the time you're wondering, "Are they trying to make it funny, or are they just making fun of the zelda series?" Most of them contain wither bad language, sexual references, or both. I think that if we can't get Nintendo to make an anime, someone out there should make a serious Flash Anime Cartoon full length. I would even donate $ to something like that!!! One more thing, i did not draw the anime on my signature :( I got it from http://www.geocities.com/helixtriplejump/new_page_57.htm. That page is part of a collection of original anime by fans. I'll find the homesite and paste the URL when i find it lol. I know my Signature is tooo big and will ammend that... maybe with my anime or somethin... sont know yet..... now... yes, i am a talker... so dont kill me!!!

Thanks for the input. Perhaps i should look into the series just because, or at least the first episode, even though it'll most likely be horrible. Hey Linkquestion, interesting site find w/ some awesome pictures. If only i could draw like that... :(

I'm writing a story at the moment. It's going to be extremely massive, so it won't be done for some time, especially because I'm only 20% of the way through Part II of III. So I guess that doesn't really help you.

Zelda anime would be cool.

!!! I am writing a looooong Zelda fan fic as well!!! Its gonna be like... 600 pages... mine comes after MM and before WW... it will link the two stories together i think. The only problem i find as a Zelda writer, is that when the new games come out, it kinda destroys the authenticity of the stories i create, especially when the new games totally contradict what i have written. But i guess thats showbiz... or writing biz...

I was wondering what your methods of writing are? Liiike.... do you start the story at the beginning and run with it, or so you do outlines...? I do some of both... but right now im on like the 5th outline for my story!!! haha

I'll try to make this as on topic as possible, because I feel it would be out of place elsewhere...

My own story makes no effort to be canon according to the games. New entrants to the series, after all, can prove to be quite troublesome. I had thought WW wasn't connected to MM, but this is fanfiction so I won't quibble. My own story is actually based on the story of the games being incorrect, so it is little trouble. This aspect of writing, however, it even more annoying in regard to anime/manga that are not yet complete and I can quite understand what you mean.

I outline; it strikes me as a far better method. This allows me to tie in common threads of topics throughout the entire story, reach a more satisfying conclusion and also drop plenty of hints about things that are far to come. Most recently I've been taking the literary high path (unusual for me) and including many statements that are ironic given what they refer to.

Generally I find that it is best to outline only after you have a very clear concept of the story. This I have quickly in most cases, so it poses me little trouble. Also, I do not outline to the minute detail: just the plot and major points of character development. I believe other things are better left to flow.

My writing style differs. It never is either one thing or anouther. But I have recently got into the habit of outlining, with good results. Ideas for writing will usually hit me the hardest when I am not thinking about writing at all.

I like to outline the basic plot, especially have a strong and solid ending. I feel obliged to the readers to write an awsome ending, one that ends in justice, so that the reader feels that the time they invested reading my works, was well spent.

I do agree with you on the point that you can allude to things to come if you, as the author, know it before the reader does. I find it especially enjoable to read a sequence of seemingly not connected events, and find that they were weaving an enormous picture I was too close to to see.

Well, I hope that I can read your fan fic when your finished with it. I always love a work of great literature. I find often that, "words are power." The larger your vocabulary is, the greater your power. I also like to make it seem that the fan fics have it right over their real counterparts, because more often than not, the fan fic writers write better stories and have better ideas for plot and ending than the creators themselves.
