Searching for new manga...

Postby Ichigo_89 » Thu Aug 05, 2004 7:57 pm

Ok, I've recently been getting some awesome manga such as Evangelion, Naruto, Jing, .Hack//, Megatokyo, etc. But I want to find some more cool manga other than that.

What's caught my eye recently is Trigun, Nausicaa, Fruit baskets, Azumanga Daioh, D2, PlaneteZ, and Rurouni Kenshin But that's alot of cash to shell out, so I need advice on which ones are best. HELP! :waah!:

Fruits Basket. Read Fruits Basket.

But you knew I would say that, now didn't you? It's funny, it's touching, and it's totally addictive. If you have any questions, feel free to PM them to me or just post them here.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. Fruits basket is really good. Trigun maximum is also okay, but the first two volumes of the other Trigun aren't nearly as good as the anime. Kenshin is fun too. My favorite of those you listed is definately fruits basket though.

My opinion is basically the same as Ducky's-Fruits Basket and Ruroni Kenshin, and maybe Trigun Maximum :)

I guess I'll have to pick up Fruit Baskets finally... But last time I checked, my local bookstore only had 1 copy of Vol.1 and the condition was pretty bad. Mangafanatic, I'll send you $11.00 if you can ship me a copy of vol.1 in pretty good condition. PM me.

Don't hesitate to get Azumanga. If you liked the game aspect in .hack, I'll also suggest Magic Knight Rayearth (Clamp/Tokyopop), since the first three parody a traditional Japanese RPG. Also, Tsubasa and xxxHOLiC (both Clamp/Del Rey) are really good.

It's about a witch lady who grants wishes, but she does it in a really wierd way and requires a payment for each wish of the thing that is dearest to the wisher. She ends up making the main character work for her as a lackey of sorts and promises to grant him a wish even though he denies having one.... it's quite good.

Yeah, Tsubasa was pretty good. It felt a little "filler"-y to me though. Like the mangaka is just putting alot of pages in and not much story development. I don't know. (plus, I was sorta confused by those monster things. . . )
