The Faceless Minions!

Maybe this will wind up being moved the the movie forum, I don't know. I put it here because of what this thread encompases: Movies, anime, cartoons, tv shows, books... whatever...

Anyway, I figure, at some point, somewhere in entertainment, everyone's gotta have a love for the faceless evil minions in some story, in some thing...

I know that in the Star Wars universe, there are the Storm Troopers, and I bet a lot of people like them. Of course, also, there is Boba Fett, and... many, many people are big Boba Fett fans. A friend of mine, though proclaiming herself not to be a Matrix fan, is a huge fan of the Sentienel robots. She says "I'm not a Matrix fan! I'm a Sentienel fan!"

What are your favorite faceless minions?

Mine happens to be... from the books and the movies, though foremost from the books because that's where I saw them first: the Ringwraiths from The Lord of the Rings trilogy!

Why do I love them so? Well, they're creepy... they embody some of our darkest fears... they are undead beings trapped in a pitiful not-death, not-life existance in which they are slaves to Sauron, they became that way through deception and mainly their own lust for power... they were once great, wise kings of Men... , THEY WEAR BLACK! (I love the color black)... they ride (though cruelly) cool black horses, and later... extremely scary creatures (which, when reading the books, I imagined to be rather pterodactyl-like)... they carry swords...

They are envisioned by Frodo when he puts on the Ring, and they are scary, ghostly beings, led by the "white king"...

They're very determined, murderous, vile creatures, elegant in their long black robes (which I imagine smell of death), And... they embody our own potential to become slaves to evil and trapped in a wretched existance. They, after all, used to be human, until their power-hunger made them what they are.

So, yeah.... go Ringwraiths!

I like Legato in Trigun.
Eventhough he is evil,he looks cool.He is a guy loyal to this master and would die for him

I liked zombies (specifically those from Romero's "Dead" trilogy). They are usually both minions and the primary threat. For some reason I have always been fascinated with the idea of zombies and the undead.

I just read "The Zombie Survival Guide," by Max Brooks. It was a great book, and I suggest that you all read it before the dead take over. ;)

To clarify: In this thread, I did not mean for it to be to talk about main villains with actual strong characterization, like Legato. He is cool, but he's a "major" villian, and one you get to really know... not a faceless soldier of evil. Those are what I am talking about. To give an LOTR comparison, Legato is like to Knives like Saruman is to Sauron... an actual main baddie who shows his face and whom you get to know as an individual.

This thread is for just the stock "evil soldiers"... ones without individual personalities - they can have some strong characterization, strong traits as the beings they are, but not be major "individual" villians. This is just to clarify. According to the definition for this thread, the Gung-Ho Guns wouldn't even qualify because, though rather the "stock soldiers" of Trigun, you do get to know them as individuals.

This is more like for the expression of love of Storm Troopers, Sentienels, Agents, Ringwraiths, Orcs, Zombies, those random soldier bugs in "Starship Troopers" and "Blue Gender"... stuff like that. :)

Can't decide.....
The Ringwraiths are cool, ummm... Stormtroopers are too. Then, there are the Imperial Soldiers from Final Fantasy VI and Soviet Consripts from Red Alert 2.

<those random soldier bugs in "Starship Troopers" and "Blue Gender">

Random bugs! You insult my sex!

I personally like all the guys in Yu-Yu Hakusho that get beat up. Oh, and whoever Jack Bauer tortures and kills in 24.

The SS and Wehrmacht masses in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade. For the best of the modern, realistic, fact-based, loathsome, murderous, vulgar hordes marching against all that is good in society, bring on the Nazis.

Hmm... I'd have to say stormtroopers... though after seeing the special features on "Attack of the Clones" I'm not too fond of the star wars universe anymore...

Yes, the Borg are cool.

He may not be quite faceless, but he is a minion: Toad from the X-Men. He's disgusting, but kinda' funny. Too bad he's on the side of evil. (I must see X2!)
