Adventures in Odyssey

I really needed to get my mind off some disturbing things, so I thought "What is something I could do that I enjoy that will help me get my mind of this?" My answer came to me...

Despite my feelings about Focus on the Family, those feelings do NOT extend into Adventures in Odyssey. I know from that earlier thread that there are some AIO fans here, so did you know that on their official site (http://www.whitsend.org go to kids radio and then go to "daily show" for older episodes) you can listen to up to 2 weeks worth of shows for free (legally, of course) on the internet, WMA and RM formats! I listened to an episode I didn't hear before that takes place betweent the first and second battles for Whit's end, about Richard Maxwell. They update the site 5 days a week and there's a different rerun every day... If you listen long enough, you may actually get to some of the episodes I was talking about... Of course, I consider some stuff that's earlier than these episodes important, but in the tradition of most american shows, if you pick up where it lets you, you can usually piece stuff together enough to understand what's going on... It's very episodic save for a lot of episodes regarding Blackguard, Eugene, and Richard Maxwell (in the early episodes, later on they had different connected episodes that may not have really involved them...) Most of the episodes are simple "Obey your parents and don't fight among each other" sort of faire, but it was worth listening to for the other stuff... That, and even the fluff episodes allowed me to get to know some characters, like Eugene and Connie...

Anyhow, just thought you might want to know that...

Cool! I listened to some of these a while back when I was working as a kids pastor. I never thought to look for them online. Thanks for the link!

OTBOOC: Should this be in the 'cool links' area? Or does the topic being about the show, not the link, preclude that?

*sighs* I used to love AiO. Connie was my hero. I used to love the fights she'd have with Eugene. I also loved all the conspiracy stuff with government agents and such, and all the clandestine things that Whit was involved with. I haven't heard it in so long. Anyone know if they're still making new episodes?

AiO is superb! I have a tape collection that I can still listen to and laugh and get a good message from. Connie and Eugene are halarious, lest we forget the timeless "your going out to buy a brand new used car, quite a contradiction in terms!" statement, that had me laughing for ages! I cant say ive heard much else from Focus on the Family but judging by AiO I cant say they are all bad, right?

Yeah, they are still making new ones. Eugene seems to be gone from the show currently however. They have added several major new characters recently. Connie is on a road trip with Jack's wife so currently they are doing episodes about that.

I used to love this series! The Blackguard/Whit's End arc was superb. I also like the episodes where Eugene and Walton go on a road trip to California. (My personal favorite out of those episodes where they each get a piece of a treasure map and greedily try to get each other's piece. That one was hilarious. It has a twist ending too.)

Yay! I'll have to make a visit to my local Christian bookstore and check out what's available on cd. Excellent stuff to listen to while drawing! ;) AiO fan manga ... *adds idea to long list*

I haven't heard AiO in ages. It really floored me when I first found out that the man who originally did Whit's voice was Otis the drunk in the Andy Griffith Show. When he passed away Whit was absent from the show until they could find a suitable replacement (for almost a year if I remember correctly). Thanks for the link.

Oh, is that the reason for Whit leaving Odyssey after the Eugene/Bernard road trip arc? It would make sense.

Right, and then he left "suddenly" for the middle east right after they got back and Eugene chased him to the airport ... That road trip was nuts, though.

I still haven't heard all of the road trip episodes... But, I didn't realize there were plot important episodes between the the end of the first "battle" and the road trip... I heard 2 yesterday... About Richard Maxwell...

I really need to start saving all of the plot relevant eps, and putting them in order... I only wish that FotF would do that... Most of their albums are out of order... Man...
