Japanese Culture

I was trawling the web the other day, and discovered a really good article from
http://www.thejapanfaq.com :
http://www.thejapanfaq.com/FAQ-Primer.html
It explained a lot of things about Japanese culture to me that I didn't know before, answering question like "are the japanese racist?", among other things. The site includes loads of other useful articles about japanese etiquette, manners, etc.
Anyway, I was wondering, has anyone on this board been to Japan, or actually live there? How do you find it in Japan?

Amen to that! I love the Fillipinos, one of the nicest cultures in the world. Our family felt very welcome when we visited that country
Loads of Christians there, too

Well spoken. You should also read David Suzuki's "The Japan We Never Knew" and the book "Dogs and Demons" (I can't remember the author) that critically examine modern Japanese culture. They contain some very interesting thoughts.

It also explains quite a few questions or ideas that I had pre-formed about the Japanese. Thanks for sharing it!

I dunno, I have second thoughts about wanting to go to Japan now. o.O; I don't think living there would be for me but I would like to visit sometime if I ever get enough money.

I think those faqs are little outdate. I know some people who are in japan and I dont think its really like what that faq says althought some of it may be true. Sounds a little bit odd saying the country is a borg mind state when sen no chihiro was so popular there...........

Well, I guess you can't really generalize about any country. But still. I think the high prices alone are enough reason for me to keep living at home in the US. o_O
What's "sen no chihiro"?

"sen no chihiro" = "Spirited Away" - a really good anime film by Miyazaki.
As for being out of date, the internet hasn't been around for very long, so in a cultural context I'd say it's hard for something to become obsolete over such a short period of time.
Also, I found this article on a forum about Japanese culture, and a lot of Japanese agreed with the things that were being said on that page.

This is quite an acurate article...but I think there are a few holes in it and certain things that could have been explained better.
