Personally, I wanted to be a soldier for the longest time. I finally outgrew that when I realized that that would require me actually obeying orders from some other person.
Then I wanted to be a novelist, but I could never write more than 30 pages of material before getting bored with the subject. Then I got to college and majored in English (Professional writing option), planning on being a technical writer or something like that.
Last year, though, I switched majors to Rhetoric & Composition, planning on doing copy editing and/or going to seminary. I'm still in that boat, although I am actually a copy editor at the moment (campus newspaper, but at least it pays). If I
were to go to seminary, I honestly don't know whether it'd be to be a pastor or a theology professor
at a seminary, but I do know that if I had my druthers, it'd be Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY.
