I figured I would see if there any other fans of this genre around here and talk about survival horror games in general. I know they are coming with remake of sorts of the orginal Silent Hill called Silent Hill: Shattered Memories from what I have read they have removed combat from this version infavor of you running and hiding from the monsters. Also they releasing ports of ObsCure: The Aftermath for the ds and psp latter this year.

The only one I can think of that was rated T was the first Fatal Frame game.

I never played that title I don't have X-box 360, PS3 or a Wii the only current generation title I have played all the way through was Devil My Cry 4 on my friend's X-box 360 who I no longer see since I have moved.

I really like Silent Hill 2 and 3, but can't really be bothered to play the rest of the series. I couldn't even get past the first five minutes of Resident Evil...not because it was scary but because the controls are absolute crap and the zombies will NOT FREAKING DIE.
I'm really interested in picking up Fatal Frame, but I'm having trouble finding it...Obscure sounds like fun, but apparently, isn't very good at all...might buy it, anyway.

Animaniac I loved the RE and Silent Hill franchise although I didn't care for RE 4 that much between them getting rid of the zombies and the general feel of the game was more of an action game than survival horror game.
Tarnish I know the zombies in the first game are practicly bulletbroof it might have putme off of the franchise but I didn't start gaming until I was in college and the first RE game I got was Resident Evil 2 for the PC. I liked Obscure alot but I also enjoyed RE series which it's very similar to, also it's a fairly uncommon game.

I love Silent Hill 2, like 3 and 1, and am ok with 4, but for the most part, I'm not a horror fan. I love SH2 for its "terrible love story" and some questions it raises. I've tried a few times to get into the RE games, but never quite did. I got nearly to the end of Clock Tower 3 (4 in Japan) and I played Fatal Frame, but didn't get very far before I returned it on gamefly. I watched my friend play all the way through Parasite Eve, and I'm the only one I know who seems to have seen what I saw in the last battle... I won't get into that any further, as I tend to draw scoffs and even offend people when I get into it. I never bothered with the second game.
Oh, and I have Siren on PS3. It's a reboot of the original Siren, made as though it were a western adaptation (even though it was still made by a Japanese team) and unlike what the demo suggests it's STILL FREAKING HARD... I seriously wanted to cry numerous times in that game, and not for any plot reasons...
Along those lines, I love Jacob's Ladder and Donnie Darko, but I also don't much go for horror movies. I prefer Aliens to Alien and the only zombie movies I watch are Braindead (aka Dead Alive) and Shaun of the Dead. The only slasher I like, for that matter, is Hot Fuzz.

Bob speaking of Siren I just started playing the PS 2 version tonight and I'm not a big fan of slasher or zombie movies either I did like Shaun of the Dead and Army of Darkness. I have both Parasite Eve games and heard there going another one on the PSP called The 3rd Birthday although there has been no word if it's going to be released in th U.S.
So Bob what you do think of the plans for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories combat isn't going to be an option instead invade and runaway from monsters. Personaly I don't like it and I don't think it will go over well with the majority of the fanbase this is a big change to the basic gameplay of Silent Hill.

You know me, I'm a Silent Hill freak.
I hang around on a SH forum site a lot. We've been discussing Shattered Memories lately. Opinions range from cautiously optimistic to extremely angry and almost personally offended. But the general consensus is that putting a new spin on the gameplay might not be such a bad idea if you think about it, but we'd be a lot more comfortable with it if it were a completely new and different game, not based on the original.
Me, I think splunge.
I also dig Siren Blood Curse, a PSN download game. It's a hefty one, weighing in at over 9,000 MB, but it's good. It's equal parts Fatal Frame, Silent Hill and Res Evil.

Well Spoony after my experience with Haunting Ground your going trouble convincing that survival horror where you just run and evade the monsters can turn out well it just gets very anoying after awhile. Although I do agree they would have a better chance of this going well if they had created an all new story.

I enjoy sitting in on them, but I'm not too familiar with the genre myself. Great games to play in groups though, because everyone jumps on cue.
I do have the Trilby games, but I hesitate to label them Survival Horror.

I like the survival horror idea in general, but would prefer playing with a friend (because it's more fun).
I have Left 4 Dead (FPS / survival horror) does anyone play it?

I like the Resident Evil series but I've never played any of the Silent Hill titles though the new one for the Wii looks really promising.

Will Shining Monk Silent Hill games are alot more intense than Resident Evil the Silent Hill games manage to raise the hair on the back of my neck in a way RE never could.

If you wanna play Shattered Memories fine, I'd like to give it a whirl myself. Just keep in mind that it should in no way be taken as a suitable replacement for the original. It is wildly different in many ways. The original game will be available for download on PSN soon, they've already got it in Europe.
And
GundamFan is right, the Silent Hill games will get under your skin and scare you like you didn't think a game could. Don't wait for Shattered Memories to get started, though. I'd recommend picking up SH2, it's generally considered the best of the series. It's certainly one of my all-time favorite games.

Well I still think the orginal Silent Hill was the best game of the franchise but I would still recommend starting with Silent Hill 2 since you can get that at most Gamestops and the orginal you would have to get off of E-bay or something.
Guys say what you want about franchise doing same thing over and over again but it still works I still got a little bit of tingle up spine when I played Orgins.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that the tried-and-true method was getting dull, I loved Zer0rigins too (even if they could have done a lot more with the Butcher). I'm just not opposed to trying something new with it. Shattered Memories is basically an experimental game. But believe me, it's not what the fans meant when we said we wanted a next-gen version of the the original game.

I'm not opposed to trying something new either as matter of fact I'm still planning on getting the game on PS2 and if I really like it on PSP as well. I'm concerned more than anything else it's one of my favorite game franchises and there messing with basic game mechanics on it.
We really should warn people to if your thinking of playing Silent Hill games first go play some Resident Evil titles if you started getting spooked or chills going up your spine during the RE don't buy any Silent Hill game you can't handle it.
