The new DSi has a official release date of April 5.
Will you be getting one?

This needs to be in the gamer thread. And no I probably won't get one considering it doesn't have any GBA slot.

Naahhh. I got a DS Lite. The camera is a cool feature on the DS but it can't play GBA games. I do still like to play GBA games from time to time on my DS. I only wish they made it so the DS could play GBC and GB games too.

I tried the video game forum. It would not allow new threads.

XD I just got a DS lite for Christmas. So I won't be getting one.
And I don't really like the way they look,or the colors they come in.

That would explain why the thread is here then. I figured somebody who's been here since 04 would know something like that. When in the dumps, Improvise!
Teal and Black? The black looks pretty cool, but I still like my Onix DS lite.

Hey is it just me, or is Nintendo trying to do to the DS what Sony did to the PSP?

Well, it looks neat, but considering I have a cell phone with a camera and a DS lite, why would I need a DSi with a camera?
I'm content with my DS Lite for now.

The GameBoy camera failed... I don't see any reason why this should do any better unless they find some awesome way to work it into games but I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah, the DS/DS Lite is pretty cool, do they really need to update/add to it and make another system already?

DSi, bleh. DS Lite works just fine thank you. It's a handheld gaming system, not a multimedia device. If you want something that does multiple things, get an iPhone or something.

provide absolutely no games for it, or keep stamping out the same product over and over and over again, insisting it's a new device?

Boosh. You hit the nail on the head. XD

Except for niggling little adjustments in the pre-existing hardware though, there really is no difference in the various PSP models.
That said, no I'm not getting a DSi. The DS light was perfect. I wish they'd stop trying to reinvent the wheel by adding cameras to it.

I'm not too excited about it because my DS lite is serving just fine. However, there is one case where the addition of a DSi store and an SD card slot would bring one of my wishes to fruition:
Downloadable content for Ouendan.

I'm definitely getting a DSi but not right away (lack of income T_T). I think the camera and music player are great additions. What I am really looking forward to is DSiWare. I think it would be great to have VC games on a handheld.

Nintendo has been reinventing their handheld systems over and over since the days of the Color GameBoy. And nearly every time they did, they left out some "minor detail" or other which left fans feeling somewhat conflicted.
Fans were screaming for a GameBoy in color, so Nintendo brought out the Color GameBoy. A GameBoy with the outer casing in a variety of different colors. "Thanks," we said, "but that's not quite what we meant." Then they gave us the GameBoy Pocket. Good effort, but still not quite it. Finally, they got it right with the GameBoy Color. That was pretty much the only time we were in no way disappointed.
The GameBoy Advance was cool, but the screen was often not bright enough under the wrong sort of light. Then came the GBA SP which again was pretty nifty, but lest we forget, there was no headphone jack. Then they gave us the DS. "Oh, cool! This is- wait, why can't I play my old 8-bit cartridges?"
I am fully aware that I overlooked the Virtual Boy. As far as I'm concerned, the Virtual Boy never existed.

Anybody remember the original gameboy? Now that was some quality gaming.

I don't think it's unreasonable at all for Nintendo to decide to drop backwards-compatibility for a fifteen year old cartridge format on a handheld gaming device.
I need to get one XD
You'd probably be able to simulate the fun of playing one by staring into a flashlight in a dark room.

Amen and Amen!

I do remember it. My brother had one. I bought a game for it and he let me play it on his gameboy. I have a picture of me playing it back when I got my first cat. The cat was napping in my lap. That thing is so old comparitively now. Wow, good memories though.

I have a Gameboy SP, so lack of cartridges doesn't bother me.

Well, true, that wouldn't bother you, but all I have is the original GBA, which uses regular batteries still. So my DS Lite that plays GBA games is most awesome, because it is rechargeable. XD

I don't understand this post because it makes no sense.
Trying to do to the DS what Sony did to the PSP...if you're talking about "releasing a new version that's only slightly different from the last one" then you've got it backwards because, as Spoony pointed out, Nintendo has been doing that for years with the Game Boy.
If you're talking about "not releasing any good games for it" then that's a matter of opinion considering Pokemon Platinum is coming out in a month, and Dragon Quest V just came out, with VI on the way. Let's also not forget Fire Emblem.
If you're talking about "trying to link it with their bigger system" (PS3 for Sony, Wii for Nintendo) then Nintendo has been doing THAT for years too, with the Super Game Boy for the SNES, the Transfer Pak for the N64, and the Game Boy Player for the Gamecube.

WHY ALL THE VIRTUAL BOY HATE? I have two of them. They're fun....but they need fixing.
DSi.....hmmmm....new WarioWare downloadable game...eventually....I will own one.

I'm talking about adding stuff to the system but not really making any huge changes. What I meant by my last post, is are they doing the same thing with the DS what sony is doing to the PSP by adding new stuff like a microphone to newer versions of the system. Example: PSP 3000 has a microphone, the DSi has a camera. I know Nintendo has re-done the Gameboy systems over the years, but at least they put new games with them. But the DSi still runs on regular DS games. That's what I was pointing out. I hope the Sega system thing doesn't come back in Nintendo form. D:

No thanks, my original DS does everything I need just fine. Plus, it looks like a DeLorean to me, and that makes me happy.

Nintendo released the Color Game Boy. It did not have any new games.
Then they released the Game Boy Pocket. It did not have any new games.
Then they released the Game Boy Color. It did not have any new games, in the sense that games that used the color could still be played on the old black and green Game Boys.
When Nintendo made the Game Boy Advance SP, it did not have any new games from the original Game Boy Advance.
When they released the Game Boy Micro, it did not have any new games.
When they released the DS Lite, it did not have any new games from the original DS.
I fail to see your point. As Spoony pointed out, Nintendo did it first. Saying Nintendo is copying Sony is like saying Star Wars copied Eragon.

I heard something about them adding region lock to DS carts after the DSi comes out. I also heard that the DSi has not one but TWO touch screens. Can anyone confirm this stuff? What the frick do you need two touch screens for? It's hard enough to manage ONE.
