Old games you enjoy(ed)

Postby Sammy Boy » Mon Oct 13, 2008 2:02 am

Just wondering if you could give me a list of old games that you enjoyed / are still enjoying? For the purposes of classifying what's old, anything more than a year old will do.

Also, any genre or platform is fine.

My list:

- Street Fighter Alpha / Zero 2
- StarCraft
- X-COM: UFO Defense
- Sacred
- Titan Quest
- Max Payne
- Guild Wars

Too many to list but here are a few.

GI Joe the Atlantis Factor
Super Mario Brothers
Final Fantasy 8
Final Fantasy 10.
I'll list more later.
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Megaman 3!! Aw man, I love that game. Spark man, ftw. Mechwarrior 2 and MW2: Mercenaries were fantastic, as well.

Agreed, Tetris. Also, I was playing Zelda 2: Adventure of Link a while ago too.
And has anyone heard of "The Lost Vikings"? It's an old SNES game where you control three vikings through a puzzle-like area and you have to get them all to the end, and each one has unique abilities. It was made by Silicon & Synapse--now known as Blizzard Entertainment.

Sure, I could name a number of LucasArts games, as I usually would, but at this point, it's expected.

How's this for a change of pace?

I mainly play older games, not only because my computer can't run new games but because there isn't much innovativeness in the game industry and hasn't been for some time. Great graphics-cool, realistic game physics-cool, but what happened to quality story and game-play?

PC:

Grim Fandango
Psychonauts
Thief: The Dark Project (or Thief Gold)
Thief 2: The Metal Age
Age of Empires 2 and expansion
Deus Ex
Medieval: Total War
No One Lives Forever 2
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Driver
Impossible Creatures
Worms series

N64:
Perfect Dark
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Mario Kart 64
Super Smash Bros

When I was a kid, there was this one Japanese arcade game I played. All the characters were chibis and you played as an Ultraman Character. What I'd do to play that game again.

If I had to list everything I've enjoyed that's older than a year, that would be a long list. I don't consider anything under at least say 3-5 years old...

While I like innovation as much as the next guy, I'd rather game developers focus on what actually works.
I suppose story is debatable but I haven't found gameplay to have decreased in quality.

SNES:

LoZ: A Link to the Past (Used to do speed run competitions with my friend)
Chrono Trigger (Haven't gotten all the way through yet. The music is awesome)
Earthbound (Maxed out everybodies levels once)

N64:

Super Smash Bros (literally put over 150 hours into that game)
LoZ: Ocarina of Time (completed it half a dozen times)

Gameboy:

Pokemon Blue (yes, I was into pokemon once. It sucked over 100 hours of my life away....twice. Getting an entire team to level 100 takes a looooong time.)

I'm kinda surprised no one's mentioned the original Ninja Gaiden series for the NES yet. I also enjoy the Earthworm Jim games, Vectorman and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars just to name a few.

Dang, some of you guys have FFX and even MGS3 listed as old games. Then again, FFX is what, 7+ years old now? And I think MGS3 looks awesome even compared to the latest releases- it defiantly holds it's own... Even Kingdom Hearts is getting up there in age and I even remember the commercials for it. I can't even believe Halo came out in 2001.

Just... wow.

I've been getting into a lot of old school games lately.
Super Metroid
Super Mario World
Super Mario Kart
Chrono Trigger <3
Link to the Past
And there are a whole bunch of other ones I haven't started yet, XD.

Yeah, it's weird how quickly things get old, especially when we remember when they were new.

Instead of listing the classics that everyone's played and enjoyed, I'll list some of what seem to be more obscure games:

NES:
Bump and Jump
The Bard's Tale

PC:
Betrayal at Krondor
Earth Siege II
Escape from Monkey Island

Sega Genesis:
Earl and Toe Jam
Zero Wing

Not that I don't enjoy the classics, it's just that the rest of the games seem to get too much spotlight. I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed Chrono Trigger, and plan on buying the DS remake as soon as it's available. ^_^

Lets see...

If you think N64 is old, there are quite a few N64 games I'm enjoying right now:
Sin and Punishment
Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
Pokemon Snap

Game Boy Color:
Metal Gear Solid (it's actually quite good on the GBC)
Kirbys Dream Land 1 and 2

SNES:
The titles on here are so obscure you probably never heard of them.

Motoko Chan no Wonder Kitchen (a fun, yet extremely short cooking game that promotes Japanese mayonnaise laden with MSG)
EarthBound (actually not that obscure)
Samurai Spirits (not that well known)
Kirbys Dream Land 3 (totally underrated)
and more...
Kirby Super Star
Contra 3: The Alien Wars
This is just a short list. I really enjoy old games. X3

My first game I ever played on the PS, yes the very first PS system, was Tekken 2 my uncle would bring it over on thanks giving when I was little. He would beat me all the time >_< but when my Dad got me a PS, I asked my uncle to borrower Tekken 2 so I cloud get better at the game. And now I’ve been beating him every time lol^^ but I love that game and it's one of my favorite old games ever. Next would be the very first Spyro game. Aww… how I miss the good old days lol ^^
