How do (or did) you play Super Mario World?

Super Mario World is one of my favorite video games of all time. Laugh if you must, but it's true! No complex maneuvers to remember or combos to try to ace. Just you, Mario and Yoshi on a quest through Dinosaur Land to rescue the princess! 90+ levels of pure play...or is it?

For those who don't know, there is a shortcut that will lead you straight to the boss (Bowser). Complete all the Star World levels and you're in. It's short, sweet, and provides instant gratification

What I want to know is, how do (or did) you play this classic of classic games? Did you cut through Star World or stick it out for over 90 levels? Vote!

(Oh, and I just wanted to put a picture of the SNES down here to show you one of the last truly rugged systems! Show me a system that can play while imersed in OIL! No danty disks here!)

I find it more efficient to keep my consoles dusted and liquid free, but whatever suits you man.

I always take the short cuts in these old games if theres one available :D Why put more work into something than you need to if you get the same pay off? That's the way I see it. Plus the short cuts usually end up being more fun anyway. But ya, in this particular game, I've never played every level. Never play every level in the original Mario game either.

I would cut through Star World...but then again I was never able to beat all the star levels...(I just don't have a lot of coordination--I think I've only beaten one game ever--Kirby's Adventure--and it took me like 5-8 tries to beat the last level.)

All levels. If I paid good money for my game, I am going to get my money's worth out of it. Besides, you miss out on a ton of awesome levels if you use the starworld shortcut.

I actually did both. When i was younger i didn't know about the star world skip so i just kept playing and then like 10 years later i plugged in the SNES which still worked and played through it again with the short cut. Either way it was a great game.

This was a quality game. The number of secret levels was rather high for the time and gave the game a great deal of replay value. I don't believe I found all of them, but obviously I played straight through (otherwise how can you say you honestly beat the game?).

BUT...Super Mario World came bundled with the SNES system...so what did you pay for? Unless you're referring to the system itself.

You are highly overestimating my purchasing power at that time. I didn't own a snes until my friend had bought two (for who knows what reason) and sold me the extra. Following that, I bought Super Mario World used from a second hand video game store.

I spent SO MANY hours with this game. When I was a kid, I didn't know about Star World, so I just kept chipping away at the levels slowly, and never really got very far. Then a few years later, a friend of the family taught me all the tricks. I don't remember if I beat all the Star World levels or not, but I know I beat the game several times. XD Man, that was a great game.

I played it on emulator. Until the Wii came Nintendo has been an underdog in gaming circles compared to the Sega MegaDrive (known in the US as the Sega Genesis, I think) so I never had a machine that could run it. Still, it was a great game.

When I was younger, I took the Star Road to get to Bowser.

When I was older, I was more experienced and played through all 90 levels.(plus the Secret World levels)

Now that you mention it...my Stepfather brought two SNES...I never asked him why he felt the need to buy two consoles...Economical, perhaps?

I left nothing undiscovered. I would be day dreaming about this game in school all day...it...was...my...life.

Terribly, that's how. XD

No, seriously, I keep dying in that game. I can hardly get past the first few levels.

I remember that I could never get past the first level in Vanilla Dome in my younger years, because of that sinking platform.
