I just got it and did the obscenely long update that can't be downloaded in the background... Bah...
Anyone else got it yet? You can probably guess my PSN ID, so we should play together when the actual game goes online next week.

Yes. It's on the PS3 only.

Well, the beta was supposed to start today, but Konami's Servers are totally trashed. Looks like the beta is extended to May 11, though.
http://www.konami.jp/mgo/us/index.htmlI've only been able to download the game. I'm still waiting to download the patch, register a Konami ID, and the Game ID.

Well, guess what came in my mailbox today from GameStop? Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2... with a Metal Gear Online Beta code. For once, an online pre-order paid off in some manner.
I have downloaded the game, and I am currently downloading the rather large patch right now as I type this. After that, I will go through the unnecessarily convoluted online registration that Konami decided to implement (which still blows my mind since everyone else uses PSN IDs on PS3).
My only worry is that the Beta period is being conducted at a time when I am in serious crunch mode in work.... So I don't know how much time I can dedicate to this.

I have to say, this ID thing and the constant problems with the beta (Apparently I can't log in because my PS3 clock isn't set right? Bah) are frustrating a LOT of people. A number of people have already said they were canceling their preorders on MGS4 because of this (which is stupid, because MGO != MGS4)
So much could have been averted if they had handled the online the same way as every other game on PSN.

Well, the Beta is up, I briefly tried the Solo Mode (kind of like practice mode) just to get a feel of the controls.... It is going to take a while for me to get used to them, but then they are a ton of options on tweaking the controls that I have not explored. And maybe it is similar MGS3 online controls... I don't know since I have not yet played MGS3.
I would give people here info to game with me... but I am not sure yet what I should give.... PSN ID? Konami ID? Konami Game ID? MGO Beta Character Name?
I will figure it out eventually.

Kojima do something SENSIBLE?
That's just crazy talk.

To be fair, this network infrastructure setup is really Konami's call rather than Kojima's. Furthermore, Kojima is really focusing on MGS4 and has a separate team working on MGO.
I will play some more MGO tonight, and it works with Bluetooth headsets, so if anybody wants to try it out, my character name is Omega Amen.
Also, in case someone still has not seen it, another MGS4 trailer has been shown on the internet:

I played a couple of rounds just now. It's fun and a lot better than MGS3 online. However, it'll still take a bit of time to get a hang of the game's pace and strategy. Feels like a hybrid of Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell so far.
I didn't have many problems with the controls at first, but the CQC will obliviously take a lot of practice. Oh yeah, and I highly recommend turning auto aim off. Also, make sure to sync up with your teammates with the triangle button at the beginning. Maybe training covers all that, I dunno. I just dived right in.
My character name is "Antilles".

Well... It's official... The servers don't like me... There wasn't an NDA with the beta, was there? If there was and I didn't realize, maybe my video got me kicked, but I can't sustain a connection to the server...

*shrugs* I don't see why they'd do that for this beta, but I never read those things anyway. >.>
I've had a few server connection problems here and there. Maybe a total of 7 in the span of the 5 hours I've played. The framerate lags at times, but never super bad.
O'yeah, I just created a temporary CAA clan for the beta. Shoot me a friend request and I'll invite you guys in.

Well, I found I could get into the game when I didn’t host, but even then, my hosts get disconnected 9/10 times within the first 10 minutes. Another thing: When I was hosting, I tried to set up anything other than team deathmatch, but it ALWAYS Loaded Team death match. I don’t know what’s up with that, either..。 I heard about some cool modes (that aren’t in the beta) On the kojima productions podcast, so I may have to give that a shot when I get my MGS4 in a month or so... Provided those modes come with the starter kit.
