Audiosurf: Ride your music

For those of you who don't know what this is, look up "Audiosurf" on youtube and be amazed.

For those who have purchased it, what are some of your favorite songs to play?

So far my favorite tracks have been produced from

Daft Punk- Around the World/Better Harder Faster Stronger (off of Live 2007)

mewithoutYou: Torches Together

I am enjoying this game immensely. It really brings me a new way to appreciate music.

Hey, I was about to post about this too! Glad I am not the only one who is digging this like crazy.

My hard drive music collection mainly is the entire OverClocked Remix and Anime Remix collection with a few game soundtracks. As one of the Steam Community admins, I am trying to find free (legal) download music areas to post a series of Audiosurf challenges. (BTW, the Steam version is really nice with Achievements and other features.)

I find it helps people appreciate music since its design forces the player to really pay attention to the actual aspects of the music being played and how it affects their track.

For a couple of youtube videos, Audiosurf apparently supports dual monitors (yes, this also means it can do two players even with one monitor): http://youtube.com/watch?v=-UhVoAiDa10

And for some Audiosurf Lawlz, watch this: http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=O3m8e0Un_Jc

There is a demo on Steam, and the full version is $10.00. I highly recommend it.

EDIT: My Audiosurf account name is Omega Amen. Friend me so we can track each other's scores.

Done. Mine is Cognitive_Gear. I've been looking for an area in which I could view your scores and what songs you've played, but I can't seem to find one. I know I can view my friends scores on songs I have played, but I'm hoping there is something that I could use to find new songs to try out.

EDIT:

I've found that Five Iron Frenzy songs work exceptionally well in this game. It produces some of the most fantastic visualizations i have yet seen.

Got you down.

To find out what your friends are playing, go to the Popular Songs screen. From there, you should see a Friend Songs button. Click on that, and the game will retrieve a list of songs from the Audiosurf server. Click on a song title and you can see the scores.

At the time of this post, the score browser is temporarily offline, but I can vouch this method works.

I am not into the regular or Christian music scene as I used to. Though, I do have a couple of old Grammatrain and Precious Death CDs (doubt anybody here knows who I am talking about). I could see how those turn out.

The Guilty Gear XX soundtrack is a nice fit.

I'll need to purchase the full version tonight or tomorrow.

Ha! I was just on my way here to make a thread about this!

The game is awesome. I love it, but it's taking up all my time!

Here's a run through Angra's Lisbon that I just completed... Ninja Mono, didn't hit any grays :D

Well, I went ahead issued my first Audiosurf Challenge to the Steam CAA community. Anybody can follow and try as well by clicking here and looking at the announcements.

I went with a rather easy song at first so as to not intimidate people right off the bat and to encourage others in playing different styles other than Mono.

I think I'll be buying this soon. Can I PM you about joining the community? My username for both it and AS is rizotti.

Community invite has been sent to you. On our community page, I will post a CAA Forum/Steam Username list, so people will know who's who.

So far, no one has been able to surpass my score for the first CAA Steam Audiosurf Challenge. If you play Ninja Mono, remember there is a large penalty for using your shuriken to clear the gray blocks. Also, experiment using gray blocks to rack up a large combo, that might yield a higher score in the end... sometimes.

Giving expert mode a second shot.

My Audiosurf account is Bad Seafood, same as my Steam ID.

I haven't yet tried expert mode. Unfortunately, it seems that my main PC is having some odd difficulties handling the game today. It was fine when I first installed it...

My gf challenged me to see if I could get a higher score than her in Inner Universe (from Ghost in the Shell)

You know... where can you buy the soundtracks for the Ghost in the Shell TV series (both Stand Alone Complex and 2nd GiG)? I really liked the series, and I really liked Kanno's work there.

It looks everyone interested in the first Audiosurf challenge has given their shot. Unfortunately, no one has been able to better my score. Maybe it was too slow and boring?

In that case, here is the second Audiosurf challenge. This time it is the Final Fantasy 6 OC Remix, "Terra in Black." Quite popular in that community.

And as of this date, here is the current score leaderboard for that song.

Updated scores. :)

EDIT: I tried Elite mode last night. It kicked my sorry butt. More practice is needed.

Well... that was quick. Any other challengers out there?

Yeah, it looks intimidating at first. But with practice it is definitely achievable. What I learned is that surviving and making smart choices during play is how you do well in elite mode.

Interesting. I am a mouse guy myself since I tend to be faster with my wrist and make less mistakes.

Now a question. Do I need to be logged in Steam for this game to play? Do I also need to be logged into steam to enjoy the online benefits of the game?

Hey... I *JUST* found out about this game cause of the thread. XD;

It looks super confusing, but awesome cause it involves your own music. (anything that allows me to play along with my own music makes it instantly awesome.)

But one question, can this run on a mac?

I just attempted to view the online options contained within audiosurf while Steam was in offline mode, and discovered that they were entirely missing.

This makes me quite sad that you won't be able to join us.

Only through bootcamp, unfortunately.

Sent the community invite.

BTW, they updated the game again. They added a bit more scoring potential to the Mono characters. However, I am not too happy with pushing the camera closer to the vehicle, especially during intense moments of the music. I find it more difficult in judging depth perception.
