why does Square hate Red XIII? :(

I just have the feeling that they don't like him as a character or something. Sure, he was sort of 'that other char' in VII, but was still a neat creature. An intelligent talking lion-thing! But... look at the time he got on AC: a quick thing at the beginning and ONE line! The other chars got a couple more things than that to say :/ And then I just went through and beat Dirge. 'Where is Red XIII?' I wondered. 'Oh look! There he is! Sitting there... for a brief... second... -_-'
I understand he'd be hard to CG because of his fur, but anyone else feel like he's not getting the love from Square? I wanna see more of him! Not just a split-second cameo :/

I think FF7 in general just gets too much attention.

I do agree that FF7 does get A LOT of attention, but hey its the best game ever so I think they deserve it. First CGI RPG!!! But anywayz Red XIII is awesome but I don't think the ppl at Square Enix think he really matters much...sorry to say it. He also is just probably a pain in the butt to CGI-a-ify.

Theyve already done the hard work when they made his model in Advent Children. And games have had much harder models to make, look at the Giants in Shadow of the Colossus. They just want to use the "kool" characters, like Vincent and Cloud, to make games about because people will be more interested.

Yeah, the robotic cat gets more attention than the intelligent speaking Red.

Saying FF7 is the best game ever is like saying plain white bread is the best food ever.

Yeah I understand they're going too much into FF7, although I'm the sort of person that enjoys viewing all sorts of side stories that they add on (whether it be an anime or a game, I have to watch/play them all if it's a series I really enjoy). Picking up Crisis Core too: great PSP graphics and tell Zack's side story (he was an interesting char too, even if he was quite a minor one).
But yes, the mechanical cat got more air time in Dirge than Red did >_>

When does Quina get a movie deal?

I could make an entire arguement countering FFVII being the best game ever, but I'm far too tired to at the moment (:P).
Anyways, just because of that, he was too hard to animate. On top of that, he didn't play that big a role in Final Fantasy VII. They could take out Red XIII and Final Fantasy VII wouldn't change much (they could have that one town not be related to Red XIII pretty quickly).
As for Red XIII deserving more attention than Cait Sith, I agree, yet I see why he gets less attention. Cait Sith was just annoying, IMO, though he wouldn't really be able to have been taken out of Final Fantasy VII due to the one or two major plot elements that involved him.

FF7 is one of the greatest RPGs ever made, but it obviously doesn't deserve the hype it receives.
I wouldn't go as far as saying it's "Plain White Bread" but it ain't Chalupas at Taco Bell (Favorite Food).
So FF7 isn't plain in my opinion, but it isn't amazing either.
Just a solid RPG that's worth a play through.
Red XIII doesn't deserve a thread either.

they don't have him cuz he's not awesome. He's just a dog or something. Who cares? Not like Sephiroth. Sephiroth is awesome. With the big sword and the silver hair and the hackity hack. Dude, you just don't understand.
...this had better not ever be seen by someone who doesn't know me. But with my avatar, it was obligatory. Red XIII was an interesting character and I enjoyed his personality during the game. Unfortunately, the angsty bishounen will always receive the majority of the attention.

Your avatar makes that about ten time more hilarious. XDD
Anyways, I actually used Red XIII quite a bit in the game, and I was disappointed by his lack of appearance in the AC movie (though I was disappointed with that movie on a lot of levels. XD). Regardless of the game's overall quality, however, Red XIII was a pretty cool character. I do wish they'd given him a bit more screentime. XD

I liked Red XIII. Not enough for another FFVII game, though. D:

I was a little bit disappointed that he didn't get a larger part in the movie. But what are you gonna do, right? As Darkecho stated, he didn't have that big of a part in the original game, so...yeah. And Cait Sith? Scottish robotic cat FTW. I wanted to throw him out of Cid's ship at that one point, though...
I was a bit sad that Vincent didn't get a larger role in the movie, then DoC came out. XD I haven't played it, but I have had fun drooling over the renders. *has been a Vincent fangirl since she was 10*

Well, Vincent got a larger role than most of the other characters in that movie (i.e., Yuffie, Cid, Barrett, Red, Cait Sith, and the rest of the team minus Cloud and Tifa), and as far as I'm concerned, it's for the very reason that Vincent had an upcoming game, and they wanted to advertise. XD Vincent and Yuffie were both optional party members, but since Vincent had a role in one of many FFVII spin-offs, they gave him more time in the movie.
That's how I look at it, anyways. XD

he really didnt have a significant even in FF7. I think he was just important in Cosmo Canyon. He was just a cool prop towards their gang. Well honestly I havn't played the game in ages so I can't really back up my opinion.

I kinda liked Red too. But I can see where other characters would get more attention. Vincent was always my fav FF7 character though.

Actually, Shadow of the colossus uses tricks to make the hair, as does Silent Hill 3 with it's incredibly realistic human hair for a PS2 game. Advent Children uses no such low-poly tricks because it's the definition of High poly. It's not so much the HUMAN work involved as it is the computational work, and any scene with Red XIII probably took around 4 times as long to render as scenes focusing on the other characters, which translates into building rental costs and electricity. I'm thinking Pixar likely has larger render farms than Square.
What they SHOULD do, though, is do "helpsquarerender@home" on PS3 for any future rendering projects they have. Heh, I'd do it... I mean, I've done over 200 units on folding@home. I've helped save lives enough, I want my Final Fantasy now, and if giving computational power to speed up the making of FFXIII and VS and, heck, even Last Remnant (rendering and maybe compiling, though that's probably not necessary) I'd do it.

I think the main reason that Red XIII is ignored is because his milkshake doesn't bring all the fangirls to the yard, unlike the more bishie-tastic characters in the series.

I guess there could be truth in any of the above reasons but I agree that it would have been nice to see more of Red. He was such a unique character with out being outright eccentric like Ciat Sith was.
I read somewhere that the Japanese VA that did his voice is pretty big in Japan and that Red's role was cut down in order to make it a cameo for the VA. That could be a rumour though, it was a long time ago and I don't have any source on it...

I actually never thought of that. It's true that FFVII is the Final Fantasy that gets the most attention, but also these following characters get so much attention;Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Sephiroth, Vincent, Reno, and Yuffie, that Cid, Red XIII, and Cait Sith seem to be the most neglected. I dunno. As far as I can tell, I don't think Square hates Red XIII 0__o. After all he did have an action figure in the very first FFVII action figure set (Extra Knights by BanDai). But that is just BanDai. I could also be wrong too.
