Thinking about getting a PSP

Sorry if this is in the wrong area. Anyway, I already have a DS, so please no "get a DS, they're better" comments. I have some DS games (pheonix wright, Castlevania, pokemon, etc.), but I was just wondering what the pro's and cons for the PSP are. The game system looks interesting. Not sure when I'll get it if I get it. But was just wanting to hear from you guys about it. Thanks.

I personally was disappointed with my PSP (I got the previous version, not the newest one).
I'd bought the PSP early this year specifically for the game Puzzle Quest -- subsequently discovering I needed augmented memory, then later to find that the game itself had a flaw in the programming that diminished game play for the PSP (but not, as it turns out, for the DS2).
It was at this point that I discovered Sony could really have cared less about quality, truth in advertising, or clear documentation -- in short, about the customer -- and I decided never again to contribute a dime to that organization.
So... not much on the technical front, but I feel that Sony as a corporation does not deserve my patronage, and the PSP is the reason.

Contrary to ClosetOtaku, I've had a pleasant experience with my PSP. I absolutely adore mine, but I bought a newer one. I'd highly recommend it. I've had a lot of fun playing Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions on it.

The pros for PSP are as follows:
Non-slim 1.5 fw:
Emulators
slim
getting a system that is simultaneously portable and a single player console (or multi online or adhoc if you wanna use multiple TVs) provided you have a progressive TV
Final Fantasy Tactics
Castlevania
Loco Roco
Metal Gear Portable Ops
Silent Hill Origins *(at least what I've seen and sort of played)
Portable movie player (ipod format), possibly 5+ movies on a 4 gig memory stick, not to mention a crap load of anime.
There you go... Oh, and there is a list of RPGs for the PSP, and MAN this list is big... probably bigger than the PS2... At least coming close... More top rated games than on DS, too.

IMO the PSP is only good when youve got a PS3 along with it. Stand alone its a mediocre device when you involve price to usage. Most of the games aren't that good, and the whole UMD thing bombed.
If you have a PS3 tho... it becomes an incredibly good device. at a wifi hotspot, you can stream movies, music, pictures and PS1(and 2 i think) games all from your PS3. Which i think is great.

...I don't really care for the PS3. The price is ridiculous and it looks like the were trying to overcompensate for something by making it look the way it does. Now I haven't played it yet so I really don't know...but then again, the majority of people i do know have bought wii's and that is probably the next console thing I'm buying.

Metal Gear portable for sure, and AC!D is pretty cool as well even though its card based. FF: Tactics, Disgea (sp) are both good. My only gripe with the psp is the analog stick and digital pad. Oh yeah also Mega man X: Maverick a port of Mega man X but in a 3d, 2d blend. Its freaking awesome. And if your into 2d fighters street fighter 3 alpha is really good.

Looks like it's time for me to get out the list of PSP games that I enjoyed/are suppose to be good (not all are out yet)-
Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII
Kingdom Heart Birth by Sleep
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories
Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
Star Ocean The First Departure
Star Ocean The Second Story
Tales of Rebirth
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Loco Roco
Tales of Phantasia: FVE
Tales of Eternia
Breath of Fire III
Tales of Destiny 2
Final Fantasy
Crush
Exit
Echochrome
PaRappa the Rapper
Lumines
Lumines II
Metal Gear Ac!d
Metal Gear Ac!d2
Dissidia Final Fantasy
Ridge Racers
Burnout Legends
Silent Hill 0rigins
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops+
On top of that, it's a decent media player and the slim has all sorts of cool features.
The cons for the PSP is that it has a mediocre battery life.

5 hours may be half that of the DS, but I don't think it's mediocre. People say that, but I think 5 hours was average for the old gamebrick (old gray gameboy), and that did a lot less. Oh, and my Laptop gets about 2 1/2 hrs, and the battery costs nearly as much as a PSP. That's because the laptop does a lot more than the PSP. 5 hours is good, I think. Particularly if you don't play straight through. I've gotten a full day's use out of one charge, before.
The real con is it's impossible to play outside on a sunny day.
